The Subaru Legacy is one of the last few sedans standing. It’s an affordable, sharp-looking car that is also fuel efficient, and packed with useful features. The 2023 Subaru Legacy is also one of the safest cars on the road, and it comes with all-wheel drive.

The 2023 Subaru Legacy is packed with safety features

The 2023 Subaru Legacy comes with the EyeSight safety suite. This system uses two color cameras located near the rearview mirror, and they work in tandem to scan the road for potential danger. As part of the EyeSight suite, Subaru Legacy owners will have access to adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, pre-collision throttle management, and pre-collision braking. The 2023 Subaru Legacy also gets lane-departure warning and a rearview camera to help with backing up and parking.

To add to all the great safety features Subaru has included on the 2023 Legacy, it also has some excellent scores from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). It has been awarded the 2023 Top Safety Pick, and most of its scores were rated as good, which is the highest a vehicle can get. There was one rating of acceptable for the side crashworthiness test. Because of this, the 2023 Legacy wasn’t awarded the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, but it was close.

The 2023 Legacy has a perfect overall safety rating of five stars out of five with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It received one four-star rating for the front passenger side crash test, but this wasn’t enough to lower the overall score. Currently, there is one recall for the powertrain, but your local Subaru dealership can fix this.

The 2023 Subaru Legacy has impressive fuel mileage

For a gasoline-powered vehicle, the 2023 Subaru Legacy has some great fuel mileage. It can get 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 MPG combined.

The base 2.5-liter engine with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque isn’t all that impressive. It’s decent enough for a daily driver, but if you can afford to upgrade to one of the trims with the 2.4-liter turbocharged CVT engine, it’s worth the investment.

The problem is that it costs nearly $10,000 more. The turbocharged engine can generate up to 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, and has a much more exhilarating ride than the base engine.

Does the 2023 Subaru Legacy have AWD?

Yes, the 2023 Subaru Legacy has all-wheel drive. It’s a standard feature that is available across all five trims.

In fact, all Subarus are equipped with AWD, with one notable exception. The BRZ does not offer all-wheel drive at all, and is equipped with rear-wheel drive. You can safely purchase any other Subaru besides the BRZ with full confidence that you’ll get a vehicle that is equipped for poor weather.

Many drivers prefer vehicles that are equipped with AWD because it distributes power to all four tires evenly. This gives the driver more control over the vehicle, which is very important in the event of wet or slippery weather. It’s also a nice feature to have for drivers who like to hit the gas as soon as the light turns green.

AWD provides more traction to the wheel. It’s also a nice alternative to four-wheel drive vehicles for anyone who likes to go off-roading, although the Legacy is not the type of vehicle you want to try that in.

The 2023 Subaru Legacy starts at $24,395 and tops out at $37,695. For this price range, the Legacy is a solid pick.
