If you’re a dictator that’s made most of their money oppressing an entire country, chances are a normal daily driver won’t do. That’s where this custom-built Maybach 57S Coupe comes in. As if driving a Maybach wasn’t exclusive enough, this one up for sale features a unique coupe body style that was never available from the factory.

According to MercBenzKing, Muammar Gaddafi commissioned this build well over a decade ago. However, thanks to the dictator’s fall at his people’s hands, the car never made it to its owner. However, now you can add it to your garage for the billionaire-friendly sum of $1.1 million.

What exactly is a Maybach 57S Coupe?

If you look at this Maybach 57s Coupe and immediately think of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, you’re not alone. In fact, all Maybach models from this era utilized the W140 generation of the S-Class as their base. According to Motor1, Maybach was revived as a stand-alone brand in 2002. However, the brand vanished a decade later, in 2012.

During that time, the company focused on building two models, the 57 and the 62. However, none of these ever existed with a coupe body style. This is where coach-builder Xenatec stepped in. The initial plan was to convert 100 Maybach 57S models for ultra-wealthy customers. However, as Motor1 reports, less than 10 actually made it out of the door.

This two-tone land-yacht is currently available for sale at $1.1 million. In fact, the two-tone color scheme is replicated throughout the entire car.

A 6.0-liter V12 lives under the hood

While the Maybach 57S Coupe was the talk of the town 10 years ago, it looks fairly dated in 2021. The main culprit behind this effect is its interior tech. Its central infotainment screen looks especially small and pixilated, especially when you consider what Maybach is up to these days.

Regardless, this custom-built coupe still houses a massive engine under its hood. A 6.0-liter V12 gives this coupe a total output of 640 hp and 738 lb-ft. Despite that massive output, this coupe is far from fast. That’s because Motor1 reports that this land-yacht tips the scales at 6,050 pounds.

The Maybach 57S Coupe features a complex air suspension setup with adjustable dampeners to keep things nice and comfortable. Since this is still an enormous coupe based on a sedan, there’s plenty of room in its rear seats for adults to relax.

What if I don’t want one built for a dictator?

If you want a Maybach 57S Coupe but don’t want one attached to a dead dictator, you’re in luck. Despite being one of eight examples built, there are others currently available for sale. In the video posted by MercBenzKing, we see two other coupe variants; one finished in white with a white leather interior and a second black coupe with a black leather interior.

While the company selling these cars doesn’t have a listed price for the two other examples, we’d assume that they should all carry a similar asking price.
