A Used Nissan GT-R Is Cheaper Than You Would Think
The Nissan GT-R has always been one of the most respected supercars in the market. When it debuted in 2008, the GT-R was heralded as one of the most affordable supercars you can buy. However, as time went on, the prices for new GT-Rs rose to typical supercar levels, with the 2024 model now costing over $120,000. Fortunately, the prices of used models are decreasing, and some used Nissan GT-Rs are selling cheaper than you would think.
How much is a used Nissan GT-R in 2023?
The best part about buying a used Nissan GT-R is that the car hasn’t changed much in the past decade. That means you can buy a used example that’s 10 years old and experience similar performance to a GT-R that you can buy brand new. Of course, some of the tech and safety features could be a little outdated, but it’s still the same basic car.
After perusing the nationwide classifieds on CarGurus, we found a couple of high-mileage Nissan GT-Rs selling for around $55,000. Are you surprised? We were, considering the car costs nearly half as much as it did when it was new.
However, keep in mind that the examples we found had over 100,000 miles on the odometer. There was another 2012 model with only 30,000 miles on it selling for $55,000, but that one has a salvaged title.
Case in point: if you’re looking for a supercar with 530 hp and an all-wheel drivetrain that can get up to 60 mph from a standstill in only 2.9 seconds for less than $60,000, a used Nissan GT-R is a good deal.
How reliable is a Nissan GT-R?
If you’re looking into buying a used Nissan GT-R, it’s natural to worry about the car’s mileage. After all, the added heat from two turbochargers cramming air into the V6 engine can take its toll after a while. Not to mention the shock to the car’s drivetrain under hard launches and spirited driving.
Fortunately, the venerable GT-R is like any other car, and with the proper maintenance, it can last up to around 200,000 before needing any major rebuilds. The folks at Motors and Wheels mentioned that “if you work the GT-R too hard, it may not even exceed 150,000 miles before it needs major repairs.”
That’s still plenty of miles for any car, let alone a supercar that can be driven daily.
Used Nissan GT-R alternatives
In case the Nissan GT-R isn’t quite your taste, there are other worthy alternatives in the used market. Some of them include:
- 2008 – 2012 Audi R8
- 2015 BMW i8
- 2021 Toyota Supra
- Dodge Challenger Hellcat
- 2024 Ford Mustang GT
All of these cars cost around $55,000 to $60,000, which is similar to the price of a used Nissan GT-R. They’re all comfortable enough for daily driving as well.
However, if you want to stick to the tried-and-true “Godzilla” supercar, there’s no almost nothing better than the fabled Nissan GT-R – even if it has over 100,000 miles on it.
