The infamous truck stop serial killer is going to trial again

73-year-old Bruce Mendenhall has been dubbed the truck stop serial killer after being linked to multiple murders across the southeast.

But he has already been convicted twice of first-degree murder for two victims in Tennessee and is sentenced to life in prison.

He is going on trial for the suspected slaying of Carma Purpura, who is only one of the 10 women he allegedly murdered.

Purpura disappeared in 2007 from a Flying J in Indianapolis in 2007. She wasn’t seen again until her body was discovered along an interstate in Kentucky.

Hours after she went missing, a police officer in Tennessee pulled Mendenhall over because of the semi-truck’s distinct shade of yellow paint. The officer was investigating the murder of a woman found near a Nashville truck stop two weeks earlier.

Upon investigating the truck, the officer noticed blood spatter inside the cab. Officers also found Purpura’s DNA, debit card, and cell phone inside the semi-truck

According to Fox 59, Mendenhall implicated himself in at least six homicides, including, two in Tennessee, two in Indiana, one in Alabama, and one in Georgia. He is known for targeting women who are sex workers.

The trial for Purpura’s murder is only scheduled for one day. Cameras will be allowed in the courtroom.

After the trial in Indianapolis, Bruce Mendenhall is scheduled to go on trial in Birmingham—Alabama for murdering a woman and dumping her body in a trash can. Stay tuned for updates.
