We don’t know much about the new Toyota Tacoma yet. However, we do know that the truck is about to be redesigned. Clues suggest that a Toyota Tacoma Hybrid model is in the works, and we hope it has enough muscle to be worth buying.

What to expect with the Toyota Tacoma Hybrid

When the new Toyota Tacoma Hybrid arrives, it should have new engine options. It’s had the same engine options for years. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque could be dropped.

That engine wouldn’t be missed because it’s a little underpowered. However, you can upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. This engine is still great but could be a little more fuel-efficient. Also, the Tacoma could benefit from an increased towing capacity.

When properly equipped, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs. The Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway.

Some rumors suggest that the Tacoma Hybrid could share the 2.5-liter hybrid engine with the RAV4 Hybrid and the Sienna. It provides 245 hp in the Sienna and 219 hp in the RAV4 Hybrid, which isn’t enough muscle.

The Tacoma Hybrid may also get the i-FORCE Max engine from the Tundra. It’s a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s paired with an electric motor to provide 430 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. It could have less power in the Tacoma.

What else do we know about the 2024 Tacoma?

We know that the Toyota Tacoma Hybrid will ride on a modified version of the new TNGA GA-F architecture. This is what the new Toyota Tundra rides on, but it’s currently too big for the smaller Tacoma.

Plus, clues suggest that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will ride on a new rear suspension. Spy photos indicate that the Tacoma will have a similar setup to the Tundra with a coil-spring suspension.

The spy shots don’t show any leaf springs, but it has the same mounting points for coil springs as the Tundra. Both trucks also share a similar trailing arm design.

The new setup should make the Tacoma better equipped for off-roading challenges and provide a smoother ride over the pavement.

Basically, the Tacoma could become a miniature Tundra. The Tacoma will have a new exterior design, and it’s expected to borrow styling cues for its headlights, front bumper, and taillights from its big brother.

Will the 2024 Tacoma have better features?

Yes, the Toyota Tacoma Hybrid has a brand new interior design. Higher-quality items will replace hard plastics and other cheap materials. It’s safe to expect leather upholstery and wood trim.

The Tacoma will also benefit from upgraded tech. Larger units could replace the 7.0 and 8.0-inch touchscreens, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should come standard.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Tacoma got a new digital gauge cluster, head-up display, and a new premium audio system too.

Stay tuned. We will report the latest Toyota Tacoma updates as they come out. Until then, the Tacoma Hybrid will hopefully offer more power.
