‘Toyota Please Help Me’: Woman Reveals A Rare Issue With Her Toyota Door After It Rains. It’s Not Just Her
A PNW Toyota Corolla driver recently revealed a rare issue with her drivers side door after it rained.
In a TikTok that’s generated over 12,200 views as of this writing, Whit (@pnw.dogmom) shares what exactly was inside her car door after she noticed a swishing sound when braking.
“Toyota Please Help Me”
In the TikTok, Whit pleads for help as water sloshes inside her door, and she has no clue how to get it out.
She explained her ordeal in the description: “I left the gym this morning and noticed it sounded like a water bottle left in my door. There is water stuck in my door.”
So it turns out water is stuck inside of her door. Whenever she stops her car, water sloshes around.
She continued to express her concern in the description, “We’re supposed to get an ‘atmospheric river’ this week in the PNW. I am poor and my late great aunt bought me this car… I can’t have mold growing. Anybody else deal with this? 2020 Corolla hatchback.”
Whit is begging Toyota to help her in the overlay and asks the viewers if they know how to fix this.
“Toyota please help me. How does this happen and how do you fix it,” the on-screen text reads.
Toyota And The Commenters Came To The Rescue
The comments, as always, had the answers.
Surprisingly, let’s first note that Toyota commented and asked her to contact their engagement office.
“We’re so sorry for the concerns you have. Please call our Brand Engagement Center at (800) 331-4331. We can gather more information to assist you,” Toyota US TikTok account replied.
Toyota has historically been known for its quality, with many of its models being known as absolute tanks—as long as they’re properly maintained.
However, another person had the answers Whit was looking.
“My Corolla did this to me,” she said. “The round black plugs at the bottom of the inside of the door, pull it out. Stand back cuz the water will come gushing out. Shake the door a bit when it slows to make sure it’s all out and put the plugs back in.”
Whit replied to another person that she was “going to pull it tomorrow and see how much comes out. We’re supposed to be getting like 1.5” of rain tomorrow.”
Was Whit Able To Get The Water Out Of Her Door?
What did Whit do? She did what the comments told her to do.
One commenter recommended that she, “leave right plug out it can dry out inside door. Less likely to have any rust, corrosion, or mold issues inside that door.”
In a follow-up TikTok, she filmed herself locating the door plug to drain the water.
She was successfully able to drain out her car door.
Additionally this instruction video, at the bottom edge of your door, facing down, there are small circular rubber grommets or plugs. The typical instruction is to use needle-nose pliers or a small flat tool to gently pop the plugs out. Then, using a zip tie, a straightened wire hanger, or something similar, the car owner can pull out whatever dirt, wax, or debris from the hole.
Did The Rain End Up Coming?
The advice arrived on time for Whit.
Turns out, the weather event Whit was fearful of did happen. It was considered a classic “Pineapple Express,” a warm atmospheric river that draws moisture from the tropical Pacific. The area took on heavy rainfall and, critically, high freezing levels (warm air), which caused rain to fall on the existing snowpack.
The water levels rose, and the water became laden with sediment and large debris (such as logs and boulders), damaging infrastructure.
After all, this was on top of the fact that the region had already received rain from storms in late November. So the ground was fully saturated and roads were washed out. Additionally, people were asked to evacuate in many areas all over Washington.
Undeniably the door on Whit’s trusty Corolla definitely needed to be drained after this sort of weather event. Surely she is happy now knowing how to do it.
