Georgia tow truck driver impersonates police
If your car was recently towed in Riverdale, Georgia, then you might need to contact the police. A man has been preying on drivers while pretending to be a tow truck operator with the Riverdale Police Department.
The Georgia State Patrol first spotted the truck on Friday. It is covered with unauthorized markings that say “Riverdale Police Impound”. Plus, it has a license plate with a replica of the City of Riverdale seal.
Riverdale officers jumped on the case and immediately launched an investigation. The vehicle and operator were quickly identified. They confirmed that the operator has no affiliation with the department and has never been employed by the RPD in any capacity.
Officers quickly found the man and arrested him. He was charged with police impersonation. According to WSBTV, police officers shared that this deception is illegal and erodes public trust. The force is committed to protecting the integrity of the department and community safety.
Also, the Riverdale Police Department wants to hear from you. Officers are working to determine if there are unreported incidents including the truck driver.
Anyone who may have encountered the individual or witnessed questionable behavior involving the tow truck is urged to contact the department.
Remember, if a tow truck arrived at the scene of an accident without being requested by you, law enforcement, or your roadside assistance provider, then it could be a scam.
Also, it’s a red flag if the driver can’t provide clear identification, the company name, or contact information.
