Teens drivers caught after bold police chase tears through South Carolina, Georgia
Two 16-year-olds in a silver GMC pickup lit up I-20 with flashing police lights behind them—and no intention of stopping. The chase kicked off in Edgefield County, where a South Carolina sheriff’s deputy tried to pull them over for speeding. Instead of pulling over, they floored it. They must have heard somewhere that you could escape police by crossing the state line. Spoiler alert: It didn’t work.
According to WRDW, “Edgefield County deputies say two 16-year-old boys were being chased by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office.” With the chase headed westbound on I-20 toward Augusta, the situation escalated fast. So deputies got on the radio to call Georgia.

Richmond County traffic units jumped in at Washington Road and I-20, just as the teens crossed into Georgia. With multiple law enforcement vehicles in pursuit, they blew onto Bobby Jones Expressway like it was the final lap at Daytona. But this wasn’t a video game. There were real consequences on the line—and real cops behind them.
Then came the moment they probably didn’t see coming. “Richmond County took over at Washington Road and I-20,” said the WRDW anchor, “and the chase ended at Bobby Jones Expressway and Wheeler Road.” After all that, it ended not with a crash, but with a stop. The police likely used a PIT maneuver or spike strip. The thrill ride screeched to a halt—but the fallout was just beginning.
What came next wasn’t pretty
Officers found two teens in the vehicle. The driver, barely old enough for a learner’s permit, was slapped with a laundry list of charges. DUI under 21. Felony fleeing. Reckless driving. “Driving on the wrong side of the road,” the report said. At 16, his DMV record is already toast. But there was one small silver lining.
“No one was injured in that chase,” WRDW confirmed. “And the driver has been charged.” That means no body bags, no fugitives—just a massive wake-up call and a detention center booking. The passenger? Also 16, but for now, unnamed and uncharged.
At the end of the day, this teen driver learned the hard way that outrunning the law isn’t as easy as it looks in the movies. Even when you make a break for the state line. What started as a high-speed chase ended with a tough reality check. The cops were patient, the charges were serious, and in the end they made their arrest. As for the teen, they’ve certainly got a long legal road ahead—one that hopefully doesn’t involve any more speeding.
