Ram drops EV truck plans to focus on ‘beautiful’ mid-size pickup
My apologies if you were excited to see the Ram BEV. I have bad news. The electric Ram 1500 has been canceled, and another model already stole its name. But at least Stellantis is here to help you move on with the promise of a ‘beautiful’ mid-size truck.
The fully electric Ram truck is no more
You may have noticed that Stellantis is a bit late to the full-size electric truck party. However, it’s no longer showing up at all. The Ram 1500 REV was intended to compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra, and Tesla Cybertruck.
However, after delaying the EV multiple times, it has officially been scrapped. According to Reuters, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy as demand for full-size battery electric trucks decreases.
But the REV name will live on. The range-extended Ramcharger truck will now be called the Ram 1500 REV instead. It will feature a hybrid system that uses the gas-powered V6 to recharge the battery.
It can be easy to get confused by all of this product shuffling. However, don’t let the fact that the Ramcharger name is now free in the United States.
Could this be what the new mid-size Ram truck will be called? The Ram Ramcharger could be similar to the Ram Rampage in South America.
Just as the electric 1500 bites the dust, Stellantis CEO, Antonio Filosa, promises to deliver a beautiful mid-size truck. He didn’t go very deep into the specifics, but explained that the truck will be amazing with very good technical specifications.
It could be called the Dakota as well. But some rumors suggest that a new Dakota pickup is launching in South America instead.
The new model will have a body-on-frame build. The platform supports gas-powered, hybrid, PHEV, and fully electric powertrains. However, 2027 is still far away. It could be a while before anything else is shared.
