1. Luxury off-roading

According to Cars.com, one of the biggest pros of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X is its off-roading capability. Not only is it able to tackle inclement weather, but it also does so while remaining a luxurious vehicle inside. The model comes with a raised, adaptive suspension with special springs, dampers, and increased travel. Moreover, the AT4X model has standard locking differentials, 18-inch black wheels, off-road tires, blacked-out trim, and LED foglights. The cabin is the perfect place to get comfortable, while the exterior is ready to take on any terrain.

2. Potent all-purpose powertrain

Without considering off-road capability, most full-size truck owners want a potent, capable engine. For the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, it’s a 6.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, it has an output of 420 horsepower with 460 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the AT4X towing capacity is 8,900 pounds, which trails few rivals. The publication says the pickup has no problem getting up to speed quickly and offers a pleasing engine sound.

3. Improved interior

Next, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 resulted in a better cabin. Lower trims ditched the plastics and hard-touch materials for the opposite, and higher trims are rivaling luxury SUVs and cars. Even the dashboard is improved, differentiating the Sierra from its Chevy equivalent, the Silverado. Furthermore, a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 15-inch full-color head-up display make the interior more premium. Not to mention the other enormous 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs the built-in Google operating system in the middle of the dash.

1. On-road driving could be better

First, Cars.com says the off-road prowess provided by the Sierra 1500 AT4X causes the driving quality to suffer. While 18-inch all-terrain tires are excellent for traveling away from the paved road, they’re not great on it. The publication says the “aggressive knobby tread pattern” makes tire noise in-cabin passengers can hear. Additionally, it feels very noticeable while driving at highway speeds, reducing the overall smoothness of the truck’s ride.

2. GMC is still expensive

At the end of the day, GMC is the luxury version of Chevrolet vehicles. As a result, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X is more costly than light off-roaders offered by the Chevy alternative. For over $80,000, the AT4X can do a lot, but are customers interested in off-road trucking really willing to pay that much for something they’ll drive through the mud? Unfortunately, luxury pickups offering this much capability cost this much throughout the market. It isn’t crazy for GMC to offer the Sierra 1500 AT4X at this price, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X pros and cons

In conclusion, there are many good and a few bad things about the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X. In addition to the pickup truck features you’d expect, the AT4X model provides a high-quality cabin interior, off-roading capabilities, and a powertrain that’s good for everything. Unfortunately, off-road prowess impacts drive quality, and luxury pickups are expensive. Overall, it’s an excellent model for those willing to pay a premium price.
