Some vehicles are coming in hot and selling way above MSRP. The new Kia EV9 is one example that has a lot of interest and demand. Check out why the 2024 Kia EV9 is flying off the lots despite having high markups.

The 2024 Kia EV is selling above MSRP

According to Green Car Reports, the 2024 Kia EV9 is subject to intense price gouging. A majority of EV9 models are selling at $7,000 above MSRP.

On that note, the Kia EV9 starts at $54,900. The $1,495 destination fee takes the starting price up to $56,395. Unfortunately, it’s currently only available with the $7,500 federal tax credit if it’s leased.

The EV9 is being built in Korea, making it ineligible for the tax credit. But it will be manufactured in the West Point plant in Georgia soon, allowing it to qualify for the discount.

Also, the EV9 has a $3,750 Kia Customer Cash rebate offer from Kia, not dealerships. So, some places tacked on a $4,995 markup to counteract that discount.

But Kia tried to combat markups by asking dealerships to not add markups above the MSRP. Kia even offered to provide dealerships with $2,000 per smooth EV9 delivery.

Despite Kia’s efforts, perhaps a larger vehicle rollout would have helped calm things down. Demand for the EV9 is rampant and this vehicle could be difficult to obtain until production ramps up in America.

It already won Best Luxury Car, Best Family SUV, Best Electric Vehicle, Best Charging Time, North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, Best Three-Row EV, Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year, and an SUV Excellence award.

After getting a ride in the Kia EV9 at the Chicago Autoshow, I understand the hype. The EV9 has instant torque with an incredibly smooth ride. The regenerative brakes don’t bite as hard or forcefully slow the vehicle down as much as rivals do.

The interior is upscale and luxurious with soft-touch covered surfaces and metal brushed accents. It’s also a bit more spacious compared to the Kia Telluride.

You get a standard pair of 12.3-inch screens with HVAC controls that are flush on the dash. The touch-sensitive controls illuminate from under the infotainment system.

It could use more range as the long-range model only provides about 304 miles per charge. But with a DC fast charger, you can replenish about 100 miles of range in roughly 13 minutes. The hype could be just beginning.
