Oregon police notice an increase in diesel truck theft

Police officers warn drivers to increase security as there is an uptick in crime. It’s becoming increasingly popular to target a certain type of diesel truck.

Trucks like the Ford F-250 and F-350 have a particular engine that is highly valuable. Criminals are actually stripping the trucks for the engine and other expensive aftermarket parts such as the tires, seats, bumpers, and electronics.

The 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine cranks out 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The high-output variants provide 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque.

It’s known for being reliable with the ability to reach 200,000 miles. With regular care and proper maintenance, this engine can reach over 500,000 miles. Along with being durable, this engine is also considered a bit easy to steal.

According to KDRV, six diesel trucks have been stolen in Grants Pass, Oregon, in the past six months in a five-mile radius. They’re stripped, trashed, and abandoned. The trucks are being declared totaled.

The thefts occur in the early morning hours. Trucks are taken from driveways, apartment parking lots, and behind locked gates.

Police officers are warning Ford truck owners to stay alert and beef up security. Consider using steering wheel locks or tire locks. Always lock the doors and take your keys with you. Also, park in well-lit areas.
