The 2023 Ford Maverick has experienced an epic start with a demand that outweighs its supply. It’s managed to take out rivals like the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Nissan Frontier. But it still trails the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.

During the first half of 2023, the Ford Maverick managed to sell an impressive 42,499. During the same period, the Toyota Tacoma moved 116,845 units. So, the Tacoma has a 74,346 lead, which is enormous.

But the, Maverick managed to increase its sales by roughly 10% compared to the first half of 2022. Plus, if the Maverick production increased, perhaps it could catch the Tacoma. The popularity is there.

Also, the Nissan Frontier is in third place with 34,139 sales, and the GMC Canyon is in last place with 11,724 sales. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the closest Maverick rival and has moved about 20,250 trucks during the first half of the year.

Is the Toyota Tacoma bigger than the Ford Maverick?

Yes, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma is slightly larger than the 2023 Ford Maverick. The Tacoma is a midsize truck, while the Maverick is compact.

The Tacoma is up to 225.5 inches long and 72.5 inches wide. The Maverick is 199.7 inches long and 72.6 inches wide. The Tacoma provides more cabin space and has an available six-foot bed. The Maverick’s bed is 4.5 feet long.

When properly equipped, the 2023 Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,685 lbs. The Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,564 lbs.

The Maverick has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine paired with an electric motor and a battery pack to crank out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

With the Tacoma, The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 159 and 180 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. But the Maverick hybrid isn’t standard for 2024, and the 2024 Tacoma has a beefy new hybrid option.

Plus, the hybrid powertrain can’t be paired with AWD. But to be fair, while the Maverick is sportier, the Tremor isn’t precisely as well-equipped for off-roading as the Tacoma TRD Pro.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma has a reliability score of 83 out of 100 from J.D.Power, and the 2023 Ford Maverick earned 81 points. This puts both trucks in the above-average category. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while anything between 81 and 90 is above average.

You can expect the average Tacoma model to make it over 300,000 miles. Some models even surpass 400,000 miles. The Maverick is expected to reach at least 200,000 miles, but it needs more time to be tested. The Tacoma has years of experience on the Maverick.

While the Maverick has a cheaper price, more standard power, and an efficient hybrid powertrain, the Tacoma has a better reputation for reliability and durability. Plus, it’s the better off-roader.

Also, the Tacoma is more capable without being too big. However, if Maverick production increased, it might take the Tacoma down.
