New Ram 1500 RHO truck durability questioned after airbags deploy in grassy field [Video]
“I think something is faulty with my truck.” Zent Rose, a private pilot and hardware engineer, lives in Orange County, California. He just got his new Ram 1500 RHO from Mark Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Rose and a passenger took the truck out to a grassy field…not even the off-road course he usually giddily drives his Ford F-150 Raptor through. They were soon shocked at an odd, sudden failure.
Ram 1500 RHO curtain airbags deploy driving through a grassy field
Rose walks followers through the scene. He pans his camera around to show us the field. Seems tame enough…it’s literally just a nicely manicured stretch of grass. Zero ruts, craters, or threatening landscape of any kind in sight. “We took it off-road on this bumpy grass and the airbags went off,” he explains, “And the seatbelt tensioners went off.”
The pilot heads back to the Ram 1500 RHO and opens the left front door. He dips under the side curtain airbag to show us the view from the inside. All four doors have deployed side curtain airbags. “I’m going to have to knife those, and then we can drive the thing home.”
Rose says that his experience with Mark Dodge in Lake Charles was positive, but his opinion of the new Ram truck is quickly souring. “Great dealership…not the greatest truck.”
The pilot can’t help but mention his Ford F-150 Raptor
Rose bought a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor brand-new. He’s posted a couple of videos featuring the truck, and seems to wholeheartedly enjoy it. He even attended Ford’s free performance driving school in Utah. The automaker sends invites to all new Raptor buyers.
Rose posted the Ram 1500 RHO blown airbags on YouTube shorts about two weeks ago. The NHTSA doesn’t have any formal complaints filed against the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO, which replaced the TRX. While it’s possible Rose’s truck has a unique, one-unit fault, we’re not sure what’s going on here.
