Things went horribly wrong for a New Jersey man who was trying to steal a pickup truck. Police officers found the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat after he accidentally locked himself in the cabin.

Man locks himself in truck while trying to steal it

While no one should be stealing cars, here’s a simple reminder. Your goal is to get away, not get locked inside. But luckily for police officers in Hamilton, New Jersey, they didn’t have to search very far for a suspected truck thief.

The owner of a pickup exited Longhorn Steakhouse and called local authorities after discovering a man inside the cabin. The man couldn’t exit the vehicle, so the owner waited for officers to arrive on the scene.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jesion Henriquez Sanchez, told officers he thought that the pickup belonged to his parents. However, he couldn’t identify the make or model of the vehicle, and his parents weren’t at the restaurant.

Plus, the victim explained that the vehicle has mechanical issues with the doors. They don’t open from the inside, so you have to roll the windows down and pull the exterior handles to get out.

So the truck thief picked the wrong truck. But it’s unclear why he failed to start it. He could have just been taking items from cars in the parking lot.

According to NBC Philadelphia, Sanchez had multiple warrants out for his arrest for unrelated charges. He was promptly taken to jail.

Police officers also remind drivers not to leave any valuables in their vehicles and to always lock their doors.
