Ram rolled out an all-new concept vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show. The 2024 Ram Revolution EV is larger than life in any way. It rides on 35-inch tires, boasts two electric motors, has three rows of seating, and a pickup truck bed. The sheer number of seats may have Ram fans wondering if this is a proper pickup truck or some kind of SUV with a bed attached. The truth is that the Ram Revolution has a full-size truck bed and is very much a pickup; its third row of seats is just a pair of foldup jump seats that can do double-duty in the bed for tailgating.

Ram built its Revolution concept vehicle on a full-frame electric chassis. The STLA-F chassis was created by Ram’s parent company, Stellantis.

The Ram Revolution EV’s skateboard chassis includes a full truck frame. It also has a large battery pack tucked between the frame rails. Finally, there are two electric motors, one on each axle, attached to the frame.

The Ram EV is certainly revolutionary. It swaps the current Ram’s solid axle for independent rear suspension. Of course it also tosses the internal combustion engine in favor of electric motors. But despite these changes, it is by definition a full-frame truck.

The concept version of the Ram 1500 Revolution has a unique cab. Firstly, the relatively small size of its electric motors allowed Ram to move the firewall wall four inches further forward than it is in the current internal combustion truck. The result is a cavernous cab with a third row of seats.

That said, the Ram Revolution concept has just two bucket seats in front, two bucket seats in the second row, and two jump seats in the third row. This doesn’t give the concept vehicle any more seating than an older Ram with bench seats both front and rear.

Interestingly, the Ram concept truck’s seats all connect to a rail system that runs the length of the vehicle. These rails go from the front trunk (frunk) beneath the truck’s hood, all the way back to the tailgate at the rear of the bed. One benefit of this system is that you can tie down cargo in the cab. Another benefit is that you can slide the folding jump seats into the bed and tailgate in comfort.

Stellantis is positioning itself as an electric vehicle leader. For this reason, Ram plans to offer an electric truck by the 2024 model year. We’ll just have to wait and see how like or unlike the current Revolution concept this production truck will be.

The Ram 1500 Revolution is unlike any vehicle on the road. This is in part because of its powertrain but is also due to its unique features. The Revolution proves that electric pickup trucks may be able to offer SUV amounts of seating while maintaining truck-like capabilities.
