A woman shares that she was told that her Toyota’s warranty does not cover the gasket reseal, despite what her vehicle’s warranty book directly states.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 39,00 views as of this writing, content creator (@oopsyoops) reveals how she was recently denied her warranty and viewers believe the mechanics are taking advantage of her.

A Toyota Dealership Denies Her Warranty

On December 15th, a Toyota owner posted a TikTok sharing her frustration after taking her car to the Toyota dealership for a routine oil change.

“I get my oil changes done every time they need to be done like clock work,” she begins.

However, this time around the mechanics informed her about issues with the gasket and it needs to be replaced.

“I was told that my gasket on my oil pan is bad and needs to be replaced. Like that should be covered under warranty,” she shares.

However, she explains that she was given a very different story from the mechanics.

“Nope, sorry. The warranty only covers bumper to bumper up till 36,000 miles and you’re at 40,000. No it’s not covered and we’ll send you a quote,” the mechanic reveals.

She elaborates that this didn’t feel right. So she checked her vehicle’s warranty book which came with the car when she bought it.

“I bought it brand new and it clearly says that the oil pan and gaskets and seals are covered” she said.

The Toyota Warranty Book Says On Page 13

As a result, she calls the dealership back to clarify that the book says it is covered and the Toyota Powertrain warranty covers up to 60,000 miles. The dealership told her that they would call back.

The dealership calls back and is told that the “oil pan is covered but the gasket reseal isn’t covered.”

“Well that’s odd. Right here in this book, it says that it is covered,” she replied back.

The dealership asked what book she was referring too.

“The warranty book that came with my new vehicle on page 13. Do you want me to bring it in?” she asks.

The dealership denied and insisted that wasn’t necessary.

“When we put it into our computer and if it just rejected, you’ll pay $700,” the dealership explained.

“No, it’s covered under my warranty… but here in the book it clearly says it is,” she replies.

The Toyota owner then questions herself if she is in the wrong here.

“I just want to make sure that I’m not being screwed over because if you’re a female and you’ve ever bought a car or had to have a car repaired, you more than likely have been screwed over a time or two,” she says.

“I’m just trying to get a second opinion and I am a little heated right now,” she concludes.

“Call Corporate, Explain The Situation”

Many of the comments believed she was likely being taken advantage of.

“Oil pan gasket doesn’t go bad that quick,” one TikTok commenter wrote.

“Take it to someone that you trust to look under the car for any oil leaks,” another shared.

“Call corporate, explain the situation,” one suggested.

Did Her Warranty Cover The Repairs?

While it is unclear what specific warranty she was under, Toyota’s standard New Vehicle Limited Warranty generally covers defects in materials and workmanship.

This includes the engine block, oil pan, oil pump, seals, and gaskets for 60 months or 60,000 miles.

The warranty excludes wear-and-tear and routine maintenance like oil changes, but a leaking gasket due to a defect would usually be covered under factory warranties if within the mileage/time limits.

What Should A Customer Do If The Warranty Is Denied?

When customers believe they are in situations similar to this one, it is important that they read the warranty booklet and note exactly what’s covered.

Toyota documents often list oil pan, seals and gaskets under covered items if the failure stems from a defect.

If a dealer refuses coverage, this issue can be escalated to Toyota corporate customer service with your VIN and documented warranty text.
