What do you get with the standard 2024 Subaru Legacy?

Before we get into the details of the fully loaded 2024 Subaru Legacy, it’s essential to detail what makes the Subaru Legacy such a great value on the lower end of the lineup. The 2024 Subaru Legacy base model starts at just $24,895 MSRP.

For that price, owners get to enjoy Subaru’s famous symmetrical all-wheel drive system as standard equipment paired with a Subaru 2.5-liter Boxer engine. With this drivetrain, drivers get to enjoy solid fuel economy at 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, which is impressive for a full-time all-wheel drive vehicle. For 2024, Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist and Starlink infotainment system are all offered as standard equipment.

According to Subaru, the power of this 2.5-liter engine is about 182 hp, which is not very impressive. MotorTrend reported that this base engine took a little more than eight seconds to reach 60 miles per hour in testing, which is definitely below average.

Despite these low-performance numbers, the 2024 Subaru Legacy base model offers a great number of technology features in the infotainment system and safety features for a low price. The performance aspect may not be fantastic, especially with power split between all four wheels, but Legacy’s solid fuel economy numbers help forgive the Legacy’s anemic powertrain.

Fully loaded 2024 Subaru Legacy Touring XT – price, specs, and features

The 2024 Subaru Legacy Touring XT is the top-of-the-line model in the Subaru Legacy lineup. This fully loaded Legacy comes with a high price tag of $38,195 MSRP, but thankfully, the first issue addressed with this top-of-the-line model is the powertrain.

Gone is the lackluster naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer engine, and in its place is a turbocharged 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer engine. This brings the power up to an impressive 260 hp, which is still sent to all four wheels. The fuel economy is only slightly affected, which is now down to 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

When it comes to features found in the Legacy, the Touring XT is loaded with new technologies and comforts. Nappa leather, a front view camera, a heated steering wheel, an upgraded stereo, blind-spot monitoring, heated front and rear seats, a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen, and a moonroof are all just some of the features found on this top-of-the-line model.

The Legacy Touring XT can also be ordered with some special optional features as well, like a wireless charger, moonroof air deflector, floor illumination kit, and a whole lineup of Thule brand products like a cargo carrier and a roof-mounted bike rack.

Is the top-of-the-line 2024 Legacy worth it?

According to our research data, the Subaru Legacy Touring XT is not worth the price. Of course, the Subaru Legacy base model is a fantastic value at just $24,895 MSRP, but for the fully loaded price of $38,195 MSRP, it is tough to recommend the Subaru Legacy Touring XT. As you near the $40,000 price point, you start to get into luxury car prices. The 2023 Lexus IS, for example, starts at just under $40,000.

Subaru makes fantastic vehicles, but the Legacy is not good enough to warrant a price that is that high. Even in its top-of-the-line form, it is a slow midsize sedan with luxury features added to justify its high price point. As a Subaru owner myself, I have to admit, the Subaru Legacy Touring XT is not worth the price.
