We have good news for the 2023 Ford Maverick and upcoming 2024 models. According to J.D.Power, both of these models have a predicted reliability rating of 85 out of 100. This is an above-average score.

Anything between 81 and 0 is above average, while scores between 91 and 100 are best. Plus, the 2022 Maverick has a reliability score of 81 out of 100, so the Maverick is improving.

The score is based on issues reported by actual owners. J.D.Power sends surveys to thousands of vehicle owners, allowing them to share their experiences.

Every aspect of the vehicle is included, from the headlights, interior quality, electronics, transmission, and exhaust. Let’s see a few of the most common Maverick problems drivers have faced.

What are the most common 2023 Maverick problems?

The 2023 Ford Maverick currently has zero complaints, but two recalls are listed. One is for a missing electrical circuit that is needed for the trailer lights to illuminate. The other is for the Maverick Hybrid engine.

If the engine fails, oil and fuel vapors could be released into the engine compartment near ignition sources such as the hot engine or exhaust components, increasing the first of fire. But the 2022 Ford Maverick has 228 complaints.

2022 Maverick brake problems

The most popular 2022 Maverick issue is related to the brakes. Drivers report that they are unpredictable and unsafe. In some cases, the brakes bite and forcefully stop the truck at lower speeds.

In other cases, the brake pedal becomes unresponsive, making stopping difficult. The problem is paired with loud clanking and thumping noises. Also, some drivers experienced lurching forward at red lights and stop signs.

There isn’t a recall to address the Maverick brake problem, but a technical service bulletin advises updating with anti-lock braking system software and replacing the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor if the problem still occurs.

2022 Maverick electrical issues

The second most popular 2022 Maverick problem involves the electrical system. There are reports of the horn randomly blaring, the truck shutting down under rapid acceleration, being randomly placed in limp mode, locking issues, and the failure to start.

Some cases involve the battery draining and the failure to crank even if the battery was holding a charge. The issue may be related to the wiring harness, but there are no related recalls for the electrical problems.

There are a variety of technical service bulletins related to the radio randomly changing stations, acceleration issues, instrument cluster problems, lack of power steering, and AWD errors. Perhaps one addresses the random electrical problems.

2022 Maverick engine problems

The third most common 2022 Maverick problem is related to the engine. Some complaints include issues similar to the ones above, with the sudden loss of power while accelerating and grabby brakes.

Others involve smelling smoke while using remote start, shuddering while switching between gas and electric power, getting stuck in limp mode, failing to hold a battery charge, and the failure to start.

Two recalls have been issues related to the hybrid engine cooling structure and engine failure. These recalls replace components at no cost to owners.

How reliable is the Maverick hybrid?

The Ford Maverick Hybrid is just as reliable as the gas-powered Maverick models. The hybrid engine may have needed more attention in the beginning but recalls addressed power issues and fire-related risks.

There are no reports of trouble for the 2023 Maverick Hybrid, and the Ford Maverick reliability scores are improving. Plus, the Maverick Hybrid components are protected by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Stay tuned as we continue tracking the Ford Maverick’s performance. It’s off to a great start for 2024. Have you experienced any problems that we didn’t list? Do you think the Hybrid model is less reliable?
