Ford Motor Company admits that a 2025 vehicle suffered a low-speed crash. Why? Its brakes failed. And that crash is just one of 37 warranty claims relating to the same issue. Ford is recalling 312,000 vehicles and hoping to address this problem through a software update. Here are the makes and models affected:

  • 2025 Ford F-150 fullsize trucks
  • 2025 Ford Expedition fullsize SUVs
  • 2025 Lincoln Navigator fullsize SUVs
  • 2025 Ford Bronco midsize SUVs
  • 2025 Ford Ranger midsize trucks

All of these vehicles have an electronic brake booster module. The power brake assist system augments the power you can exert on the pedal with your foot, helping to stop the heavy vehicle. Ford admits that without power brake assist, the stopping distance for these midsize and full-size vehicles will be very long, increasing the risk of a crash. And it gets worse.

Ford warns that the power brake assist may fail while the vehicle is in motion. It can happen while driving manually or while using Ford’s driver-assist program. Translation: It could fail while your foot isn’t even on the pedal, and then your stop-and-go cruise control and automatic emergency braking systems could fail when you need them most.

The automaker is hoping to update the electronic brake booster module software over-the-air, no dealership visit needed. But dealerships will be directed to install the software themselves if a vehicle without the update comes in for maintenance. All free of charge.

Ford plans to mail owner notification letters by August 25th. But after the over-the-air update, you can always plug your VIN in at NHTSA.gov to make sure your vehicle is up-to-date.
