It may have seemed like the perfect hiding spot. But a Miami woman’s attempt to smuggle two turtles through airport security stuffed into her bra ended in tragedy. The wildest part? It isn’t even the first time this happened.

The unnamed woman reportedly wrapped two small turtles in plastic wrap. Then she mummified them in medical gauze for good measure. Finally, she hid them in her bra and went to the airport. I guess that’s one type of support animal.

TSA brought the bra and order. Agents identified and confiscated the two animals. But by the time they checked on the plastic-wrapped turtles, one had died. The TSA handed the surviving turtle over to the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Last March, a man tried to smuggle an invasive turtle through Newark Liberty International Airport security. The TSA says that smuggler hid the turtle in his pants. The turtle crime spree left the agency shell-shocked.

The TSA even made a statement. “Friends, please — and we cannot emphasize this enough — stop hiding animals in weird places on your body and then trying to sneak them through airport security.”

The tragic part is that this little critter didn’t need to die. Most airlines have policies that allow pets. The TSA is fine with small pets at security, as long as you can remove them from their cage or kennel to X-ray the cage separately. “Notice we said ‘carried’ and not ‘hidden underneath your clothing.’” You can see the surviving turtle in the video embedded below:
