A common thug in Florida was in for a nasty surprise during his Wednesday night crime spree. Justin Schimpl, 20, broke into multiple vehicles—and even a home garage—to steal sunglasses, cash, and gift cards. But justice was watching.

Justice is named Kyle Myvett. And justice doesn’t sleep. At 2 a.m., he happened to be sitting in his nearby Batcave—by which I mean his house—and spotted Schimpl on his home security cameras.

Myvett’s motto: integrity. He insists, “It’s not in me to just stand there and be a coward when I see that something needs to be done.”

Home security cameras weren’t the only way Myvett was prepared. That night, he happened to be wearing his full Batman pajama suit. “I knew for some reason I should have worn that particular outfit.”

So while Schimpl was in the midst of his petty crime, a shape materialized in the night. Batman.

“I just grabbed him by the shirt and by his right wrist, and I just told him, ‘Hey, it’s in your best interest to just sit down and comply.’” Schimpl didn’t even try to make a break for it. Police arrived moments later.

The police warn ‘every circumstance is different’ after Batman vigilante

When police arrived, they were tickled to encounter the star of the Justice Jammies League. Officers even took a picture with Myvett in his Bat getup.

Commissioner Gordon—by which I mean Officer Lisa Greenberg—was thankful the Dark Knight had risen at 2 a.m. “It’s just a prime example of what we can do if we all work together as a community.” But she doesn’t condone vigilante work. “I would never go as far as to encourage people to always do something like this because every circumstance is different.” She urges residents to monitor their own security cameras and call 911 from the safety of their own Batcaves.

Myvett admits he isn’t the hero Cape Coral deserves, just a guy who happened to be wearing his Batman pajamas. “Hopefully, we can just be better at being better people and stop focusing on just ourselves and try to figure out how we can help our community in a non-selfish way. And then this way everyone’s taking care of each other.” See the photo Myvett took with officers in the Facebook post below:
