Federal agents fire at California truck driver and claim self defense
Sometimes, he said, and she said, drama can be annoying. However, in this case, the Department of Homeland Security might have some explaining to do. It said officers shot at a family truck as the driver tried to run men over. Video evidence disputes that claim.
Men posing as federal agents shoot at a truck in California
A family in San Berdino, California, is still recovering after masked men fired multiple shots into their truck. According to NBC Los Angeles the Department of Homeland Security claimed that officers opened fire in self-defense.
It reported that officers opened fire on Longorgia for being an undocumented migrant and intentionally struck two officers. But footage collected by surveillance cameras shows a different story.
The driver, Francisco Longoria, can be seen pulling away as armed individuals surround the pickup. Additional footage from a cellphone shows agents breaking the window before bullets erupt. Two agents were injured, but it’s unclear how.
Then he drives away. There are also reports that claim he was struck in the head. Longoria was trying to protect his family.
He was confused as the officers never identified themselves. In the videos, the men aren’t wearing anything that identifies which agency they work for.
Witnesses from the scene were scared that the bullets were going to travel through the truck’s body or windows and hit them.
Police officers arrested Longoria later in the day for assaulting a federal officer. At the time, it was unclear why the suspect was wanted. No one identified themselves again, and they didn’t have a warrant.
The videos have been shared with local, county, and state officials as attorneys request an independent investigation into the shooting.
