This has to be one of the wildest videos on Reddit! Some commenters argue that there’s no way the tow truck stunt isn’t stage. But either way, it is one of the craziest things you’ll see all week. Without further ado, you can watch the clip embedded below. Read on for the giveaways it might be fake. And my counterpoints.

Guy takes his truck back off of a moving tow truck

The video has little dialogue to clue us in. The cameraman just watches his friend climb out of his pickup window and onto the flatbed. Then he yells to his buddy, “You’ve gotta unhook it.” There appears to be a jump in time before the man in the yellow Ford SUV races off the tow truck and hits the road hard—possibly busting his radiator in the process. Because his vehicle’s going in one direction and the world is going the other way, we get a Hiroshima-level burnout. The video cuts before we can see whether our hero recovers or crashes.

Let’s go over the reasons this glorious bit of cinema might be fake—and why I still want to believe.

Reason 1 – “They took the front bumper off because it would have hit the ground when they drove off the trailer.”

If you look closely, the yellow Ford SUV has no front bumper. And that may be the only reason it could hit the road at such a steep angle without scattering half its sheet metal across the highway.

Yes, that would be a wise way to prepare a vehicle for this very unwise stunt. That said, lots of folks get in a fender bender and—rather than fixing their car—cruise around without a bumper. And this hoonigan doesn’t strike me as the most responsible type. Or as someone thoughtfully considering his vehicle’s appearance. Or thoughtfully considering safety. Or anything, for that matter.

Reason 2 – “The tow truck driver didn’t stop when he climbed aboard”

Another commenter argued that the trucker wouldn’t have kept driving when our reckless hero leapt onto the flatbed, Fast and Furious style. The driver would have heard and then stomped the brakes.

I’d argue it’s very possible the trucker had the radio cranked and was just focused on getting the job done and punching out. The rollback has a rack to protect the cab that may block most of the center rearview mirror. With wind noise, hearing a door open or the winch let loose would be nearly impossible. Sure, when this yahoo started the SUV’s engine, the trucker would have known something was up.

But imagine for an instant that you drive a flatbed for work, just completed an especially tense repo job, and then these rednecks pull this kind of stunt. Would you slam on the brakes to fight them yourself? Or would you think, “I don’t get paid enough for this s—,” and go back to the shop for backup?

Reason 3 – “No one would do this for literally $300 in scrap metal”

Several commenters couldn’t imagine anyone attempting such a stunt—especially for a beat-up car. My favorite was, “You risked your life and your freedom for THAT rusted out s—wagon?”

First and foremost, if that s—wagon is the only form of transportation you can afford, it’s worth a lot to you. Secondly, I’m very happy for the nice folks who claim they don’t know anyone crazy enough to do such a thing. You’ve obviously never met some of the lunatics who claim they grew up with me (which is false, those knuckleheads never grew up).

Think of it this way: you know that one breakup your unhinged acquaintance went through? The one where maybe they didn’t want their ex anymore, but also flew into a completely illogical rage at the thought of them being with anyone else? The Dollar Store Dominic Toretto starring in this unholy video knew he’d half destroy his Ford re-repossessing it. But he sure wasn’t letting anyone else end up with his $300 in scrap metal s—wagon.

I’m not saying the video is definitely real. I’m just saying I wouldn’t put these shenanigans past people. And maybe I just want to believe.
