North Carolina residents are upset due to a prank involving a fake ICE truck. The driver even wore an imitation ICE uniform to trick shoppers at a Hispanic shopping center. Police officers are searching for the suspect as impersonating an officer is illegal.

A North Carolina driver took things too far with a fake ICE truck

Customers are outraged over a prank at a local Hispanic shopping center involving a fake ICE truck. A white pickup truck with an ICE logo was parked at the shopping center. It is full of businesses that cater to the Hispanic community.

The driver was wearing a fake ICE uniform and the act was enough to send fear through the community. Rumors quickly spread about the stores being raided.

This prank comes amid a tough time for Hispanic citizens. According to ABC 11, the Trump administration recently shared that previous safe zones such as churches and schools are no longer off limits to ICE.

A police report was filed in Durham because it’s illegal to impersonate police officers and ICE officers. However, the Durham police department has only seen images of the Ford F-150 and the driver from surveillance cameras.

They don’t have any additional information, so charges might not be filed. They did confirm that the truck in the videos is not an ICE vehicle.

Durham Mayor, Leo Williams, publicly shared that the city supports immigrants. He explained that the taxpayers of Durham do not pay the Durham Police Department to be an extension of ICE.

Compare Foods, the largest establishment in the shopping center, shared that what’s most concerning is that the driver committed these actions with malicious intent.

He was aimed at spreading fear and misinformation at a time when the community was already experiencing a fragile and sensitive climate. Fear, especially in such uncertain times can spread like wildfire.
