When it comes to accessibility and technology, Ford is one car company that has long been at the helm of innovation. Back in 2015, Forbes reported on Ford’s impressive attention to vehicle connectivity with its SYNC platform. In 2016, Ford rolled out “a new built-in cellular-connected telematics system dubbed SYNC Connect.” Thus, Ford has a history of entertainment systems that rely on the latest new technologies. What is Android Auto?

Android Auto lets you control certain applications from your smartphone using the touchscreen on your vehicle’s infotainment system. You can also talk to Google using the voice command button on your steering wheel. Once you’ve connected to Android Auto, you have the ability to access apps that allow you to make calls, listen and reply to text messages, and play your music and podcasts. Google Maps also provides voice-activated navigation, live traffic information, and estimated travel times. If Google Maps isn’t your thing, you can connect to Waze or another preferred navigational application. For a full list of compatible Android Auto apps go to Google Play.

Android Auto’s true goal is to bring the Android experience into the vehicle — safely and seamlessly. Google Maps, Google Play Music, phone, messaging, and even third-party apps can be projected on the car’s built-in display. All of these features are also available via voice controls. With a simple interface, large touch targets, Google voice search, and easy-to-use voice controls, Android Auto is designed to minimize distraction while maximizing enjoyment on the road.
