Dealership tells Chevy Silverado owner to ‘live with it’ when truck won’t turn off
How would you feel if your truck had a massive problem, but the dealership told you to live with it? One owner was frustrated when his 2020 Chevy Silverado wouldn’t cut off and the dealership brushed him aside.
Owner told to ‘live with it’ when Chevy Silverado won’t turn off
Steve Tenore is frustrated that his 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 is causing expensive problems that his local dealership is ignoring.
He has burned through two batteries and faces rough idling. His truck won’t shut off with the push-strat button on the dash.
It continues to run after all electronics are turned off. Locking the shifter and steering wheel doesn’t help either.
His dealership replaced the fuel pump control modeler to solve the on/off issue. However, Steve’s truck has had a skip in the motor ever since. But the dealership said there is no engine code, so he has to live with it.
According to Torque News, the Chevrolet truck used to run very smoothly but now has a persistent rough idle. The dismissive dealership claims that there’s no actionable problem.
However, it’s not just an uncomfortable issue. The problem could be impacting the reliability of the truck and could lead to more expensive problems.

For example, the problem could be related to misfiring cylinders that don’t trigger a check engine. He could have fuel injector problems, faulty sensors, or torque converter problems as well.
Steve isn’t completely out of luck yet. He can try taking it to another dealership and hope the technicians are more willing to help out. Steve could also contact the General Motors customer service team to escalate the issue.
But he shouldn’t be getting the runaround from the first dealership and hopefully, the problem is still covered by the five-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Warranty.
