Regarding square SUVs, the Honda Element is one of the most popular. The number of weird boxy SUVs and cube cars has increased recently, but below is a mix of old and new sport utility vehicles with a cubical shape. There is some good news, too, as the iconic box shape lives on in one of the newest Lexus models.

What kind of car is a Cube?

At the top of the list of cube cars, the Nissan Cube is about as square as it gets. Edmunds reviewed the last year of the Nissan Cube, which was 2014. The Cube debuted in 2009 and lasted six years, which is pretty good for such a shapely vehicle. Drivers report that it offered a smooth ride and plenty of space for all five passengers. After folding the second row, there is 58 cubic feet of space. That is a surprising amount of space for how small the Nissan Cube looks from the outside.

Does Scion make a cube car?

Next up on the list of cube cars is the Scion xB. Scion was a sub-brand of Toyota in the mid-2000s, and the xB survived on the market from 2004 until 2015. Even though it had funky looks on the outside, it was also spacious and comfortable inside. Scion aimed for a younger segment with this line, but plenty of people were fans of the xB. It didn’t have the best visibility, but it was customizable from the factory.

Is the Cube car by Ford still made?

For a bit more modern take on the boxy SUV, the Ford Flex ran from 2009 until 2019. It was quite square but also rectangular, depending on how you looked at it. This made for a versatile interior space and room for seven passengers. Ford also designed the exterior of the Flex in a way that made outward visibility pretty good. While the 3.5L V6 with 287 hp is good enough, the upgraded turbo 3.5L V6 with 365 hp was even better to move this weird boxy SUV around town.

Does Jeep make a square car?

The Jeep Renegade meets all the requirements of a cube car, and it is brand new! Jeep developed the Renegade to fit into the small SUV category and into many budgets. The Trailhawk model is mildly off-road capable too, which makes it pretty comfortable on-road. It won’t beat the Wrangler in any tests, but the Renegade has a nice shape and many standard features. There is only 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the Jeep Renegade’s rear seats, but the 60/40-split rear seats fold flat.

Don’t overlook the Lexus GX

If you haven’t seen the news, the 2024 Lexus GX is a new weird boxy SUV to hit the market. After a complete redesign, the GX has a squared-off exterior shape and looks more aggressive than previous generations. It retains its body-on-frame design for more off-road capability that the Lexus SUV has become known for. While this SUV hasn’t rolled off the production line yet, it looks pretty promising.

Either way, the weird boxy SUVs are alive and well. These SUVs aren’t even that uncommon anymore, with square-shaped bodies becoming more normal than anything else.
