Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? That’s an overused expression, but it’s fitting when discussing fast cars and high fuel efficiency. Most of the general public might think that in order for a car to be sporty, it must guzzle gas.

That may be true for some supercars in the market, but plenty of fast and fun sporty cars can easily achieve over 30 mpg. Here are five of our favorites.

1. 2023 Toyota GR Supra – 31 mpg highway

It’s hard to believe that a fast and fun car like the 2023 Toyota GR Supra can pull off such great fuel efficiency. We’re not talking about the base Supra 2.0 model, either. The EPA rated the beefier Supra 3.0 at 31 mpg, oddly the exact figure as its 2.0 little brother. That’s mileage rating isn’t inflated, either. We averaged 30 mpg during the week we tested the 2023 Toyota Supra 3.0 with the manual transmission.

2. 2023 Volkswagen Golf R – 30 mpg highway

The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R proves that a sports car doesn’t need to be a low-slung coupe to be sporty. This spritely four-door hatchback has over 300 hp and can get up to 60 mph in about 3.9 seconds, according to Car and Driver’s testing.

That’s quicker than more sports cars in the market, whether they’re two-doors or not. Oh yeah, the Golf R also returns 30 mpg on the highway, which, again, is better than many sports cars in the market.

3. 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI – 37 mpg highway

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a four-door sedan, but it’s not the commuter car that you think it is. Under its hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

With that kind of power, the Jetta GLI can get up to 60 mph in around six seconds, which is quick for a sedan that can fit five comfortably. The best part, though, is the Jetta GLI can also achieve up to 37 mpg on the highway, which means that there will be more time for fun between fill-ups.

4. 2023 Lexus LC 500h – 33 mpg highway

No, we can’t get enough of the Lexus LC 500 and all of its majesty. However, this time, we won’t gush about the sonorous V8 it comes with. Instead, we’re talking about the LC 500h variant with its 354-hp hybrid powertrain. That’s plenty of power to get the car up to speed quickly and achieve 33 mpg on the highway.

5. 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec – 36 mpg highway

Speaking of fast and fun cars, the 2024 Acura Integra A-Spec was a major surprise. We didn’t think it would be boring, but we also didn’t think it would be as fun to drive as it was. We blame the car’s 320-hp turbocharged engine and adaptive suspension, which made it compliant on the street and nimble on the canyon roads. Even more surprising is that it can get up to 36 mpg on the highway.

Fast and fun cars can be fuel-efficient, too

In case you’re one of the many who think that a fast car that’s fun to drive can’t be fuel-efficient, these five cars can change your mind. We guess you can have your cake and eat it too.
