Sorry, there are no 2025 mid-size diesel trucks available in the United States. But that doesn’t mean you’re totally out of luck. There are still used pickups with reliable diesel powertrains that are worth tracking down.

First of all, where did all the mid-size diesel trucks go? Options like the Ford Ranger diesel truck do exist. However, they’re banned in America.
Diesel powertrains have been disappearing in the United States due to changing consumer demand and increasingly strict emission laws and regulations.
1. The Jeep Gladiator
From 2021 to 2023, the Jeep Gladiator was available with a diesel engine. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. It provides 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.
When properly equipped, the Gladiator Diesel can tow up to 6,500 lbs. The diesel engine adds an extra 500 lbs, which is why gas-powered models can tow up to 7,700 lbs.
Also, this diesel Jeep truck gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway.
2. The Chevy Colorado
According to Cars, Chevy Colorado trucks built between 2016 and 2022 were available with a stout diesel engine. The 2.8-liter inline-four turbo diesel engine cranks out 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
This engine is required to achieve the Colorado’s max towing capacity of 7,700 lbs. The standard engine can tow up to 3,500 lbs, and the 3.6-liter V6 can handle up to 7,000 lbs.
You can expect the Colorado diesel to get an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway.
3. The GMC Canyon
Models of the GMC Canyon from 2016 – 2022 are also available with the 2.8-liter diesel engine. Keep in mind that the Canyon is the Colorado’s fancier brother.
So it has the exact same towing and MPG specs as the Colorado. So you might be asking why it’s worth hunting for.
It’s still got a reliable engine. Plus, I’m willing to bet that luxury trucks are treated a bit nicer than standard work options. Your used Canyon will be just as capable, only it could have more comfort and convenience features.
