It might be a surprise that a couple of car models that tout the lowest 10-year maintenance costs are highly politicized. No matter your voting record, though, you can’t argue reliability. Here are some of the lowest-maintenance cars on the U.S. market now, according to a guy in finance.
Braiden Shaw is a CEO, entrepreneur, and personal finance expert. He reminds his followers that for many Americans, cars are a “wealth killer.” So, his team checked out vehicles that tout the best longevity paired with the lowest maintenance costs. Here’s what he came up with:
3. Toyota Corolla
10-year maintenance cost: $4,200
2. Toyota Prius
10-year maintenance cost: $4,156
1. These cars have the lowest-recorded long-term maintenance costs
Believe it or not, it’s the Tesla Model 3.
10-year maintenance cost: $4,034
Now, Shaw points out that a lot of U.S. drivers “refuse” to drive a Prius, and many folks “hate Tesla.” But we can’t deny how easy they are on maintenance…even Teslas. Of course, EVs don’t have a traditional engine and don’t need to be filled up at the gas pump. “Love them, hate them…they’re extremely cheap to maintain.”
There is a risk of battery failure to consider, but most Tesla owners cross over the warranty finish line without issue. Some owners do complain of range anxiety and other aspects of ownership, like strange electrical quirks and frustrations with charging up with a busy schedule.
If you’re considering a Tesla based on the full ownership picture, Shaw recommends buying a used model. This is due to another factor no one can deny: Depreciation.
In the end, of course, these three cars may offer the lowest maintenance costs, but they might not be the best fit for every driver. Size and safety are a priority for many. Be sure you understand your vehicle needs and match them to your budget.
