Kia’s new subcompact electric SUV makes 201 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. It can travel for 253 miles on a single charge. That’s enough driving range for most drivers. Of all Niro EV standard features, the most notable feature is the Heads-up display. This display allows drivers to view important information like speed and turn-by-turn directions via a projection onto the windshield.

It has heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, a skid plate, and a combination of vegan leather and cloth seats. Some vehicles include notable upgrades with every new model year. Others, not so much. Kia’s latest Niro EV isn’t very different from last year’s model. In Kia’s defense, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

The Niro EV Wind has plenty of great standard tech and creature comforts to satisfy consumers. Is it the best deal in the space? Maybe not. That being said, there aren’t many subcompact electric SUVs, so the Niro EV ranks pretty high. If you’re looking for a substantial upgrade from the 2023 model year, you’ll be disappointed.

The world of electric vehicles is ever-expanding. Options are plentiful, and competitors continue to pop up. The main appeal of the Niro EV is its long list of standard features, plush interior design, and driving range. It also has great cargo space. Some flaws include a lethargic acceleration and a lack of federal electric vehicle tax incentive eligibility.

If you weren’t already a fan of the Niro EV nameplate, the latest model year does little to persuade the average consumer to get one. It’s ideal for drivers with access to electric vehicle charging that want a well-equipped subcompact electric SUV.

Since its pricing is close to that of small electric SUVs, like the Kia EV6, many consumers will opt for the larger model. The biggest difference between the Niro EV and EV6 is better standard features on the more affordable subcompact model, which is a tradeoff for the cabin and cargo space of the EV6. The 2024 Kia Niro EV isn’t a game-changer, but it’s a welcome addition to the South Korean brand’s electrified offerings.
