The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross and the 2024 Honda HR-V compete in the increasingly popular subcompact crossover SUV segment. Both models have their strong points. However, the HR-V loses to the Corolla Cross in one giant way: reliability.

Toyota has long had a history of outstanding reliability — and this shows with its subcompact crossover SUV, the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross. It’s more reliable than the 2024 Honda HR-V.

A trusted authority for dependability analysis is J.D. Power. And the data analytics company gives the Corolla Cross a much higher reliability score than the HR-V. The Corolla Cross earned a “great” rating of 82/100, while the HR-V achieved only an “average” score of 75/100. The higher rating shows that the vehicle owners reported fewer problems, design flaws, malfunctions, and defects for the Toyota SUV.

Another respected authority that rates the Corolla Cross higher than the HR-V for reliability is Consumer Reports. Per Jalopnik, the Corolla Cross did very well in the annual Consumer Reports Auto Reliability Survey. Owners completed surveys identifying various problem areas, such as the brakes, engine, paint, electrical system, noises, and leaks. And with fewer issues in these problem areas, the Corolla Cross topped the HR-V for dependability.

High reliability of the Toyota Corolla Cross gives it multiple benefits over the Honda HR-V

The excellent reliability of the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross gives it several benefits over the 2024 Honda HR-V. Fewer problems translate to lower repair costs, which helps make the Toyota crossover SUV cheaper to own. High inflation has especially affected automotive repairs, and with the Corolla Cross, you’re less likely to take a severe financial hit.

There’s also the convenience of not having to get your crossover SUV repaired by a mechanic as often. Plus, you can have the peace of mind of dependably getting to your destination. Another benefit is safety. A breakdown while on the road can lead to a car accident. Additionally, a reliable vehicle has optimal performance on a more consistent basis. Furthermore, it’s more likely to last longer.

Other strengths of the 2024 Corolla Cross over the 2024 HR-V

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross has other strengths over the 2024 Honda HR-V. This includes performance, with a horsepower output that ranges from 169 hp in the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to 194 hp in the hybrid powertrain. In comparison, in the United States, the HR-V only offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 158 hp.

The Corolla Cross is also more efficient. It has an estimated gas mileage of up to 37 combined mpg for the hybrid and 32 combined mpg for the fully gas-powered model. However, the HR-V only gets up to 28 combined mpg.

Additionally, the Corolla Corolla Cross is more capable on the towing front. The Toyota crossover SUV can tow up to 1,500 pounds, but the HR-V is not rated for towing.

Furthermore, the Corolla Cross provides more cargo space. It has a total storage capacity of 66.8 cu-ft, compared to 55.1 cu-ft for the HR-V.

The 2024 Honda HR-V loses to the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross in a giant way with its lower reliability. For subcompact crossover SUV owners, that likely means higher repair costs, more hassles, and owning a vehicle that won’t last as long.
