When Nissan surveyed buyers recently, more than 53% of respondents said affordability was the biggest concern when it came to selecting a new vehicle. The fuel economy was in second place at 34%. The low starting price of the new Versa gives those buyers looking for affordability an option that many other automakers have ditched in search of higher MSRPs.

You might think the 2023 Nissan Versa isn’t well equipped for $15,730, but that isn’t the case. It has room for five and even received the best-in-class front legroom and headroom accolades. In the cargo area, 15.0 cubic feet of space await you. The cheapest option does come with a manual transmission and a seven-inch touchscreen.

Buyers who opt for the S Plus will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with 16-inch alloy wheels and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The top-of-the-line SR has “sport-inspired interior and exterior design elements,” according to Nissan. That includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels, and heated front seats. It also comes with Intelligent Cruise Control, automatic climate control, and an eight-inch touchscreen.

The 2023 Nissan Versa gets up to 32 mpg city and 40 mpg on the highway, but the Xtronic CVT model gets 35 mpg.

After Chevrolet canceled the Spark, Hyundai followed suit with the Accent as well. Now the only subcompact sedans left are the 2023 Kia Rio, the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage, and the 2023 Nissan Versa.

While the 2023 Nissan Versa might not be perfect for all buyers, it is still a brand-new car for under $20,000. In a time where affordable cars are a thing of the past, Nissan isn’t leaving behind some of its budget-conscious fans.
