The Santa Fe is nearly half a foot longer than small SUVs like the Toyota RAV4. It’s also a few inches wider than most compact SUVs. Additionally, the 2023 Santa Fe has 36.4 cubic feet of cargo space (72.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down).

Hyundai’s midsize SUV has average cargo space for its size. The most intriguing part about the Santa Fe is its attractive base price.

How much does the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

The Hyundai Santa Fe comes in five trims. Its SE base model starts under $30,000.

2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Configurations Starting MSRP
Hyundai Santa Fe SE $28,750
Hyundai Santa Fe SEL $32,450
Hyundai Santa Fe XRT$34,250
Hyundai Santa Fe Limited $40,600
Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy$42,600

Though it may be affordable, the base SE isn’t necessarily the best trim for the money. If you want the best driving and ownership experiences that the Santa Fe can provide, it’s better to opt for an upper trim level paired with the turbocharged engine. This midsize SUV can be rather lethargic with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder base engine (191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque).

Santa Fe Limited and Calligraphy trims come standard with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai Motor Company also offers an all-wheel drive option for the Santa Fe, making it more capable and better equipped for tricky terrain.

So the best version of the 2023 Santa Fe Limited is either the Limited or Calligraphy with all-wheel drive, depending on how much tech and creature comforts you want the midsize SUV to include. If you value power and decent acceleration, the base model may not be for you.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a great midsize SUV for the money, but should you actually get one? The answer is complicated. It certainly isn’t the best in its segment. In fact, the Santa Fe isn’t the best Hyundai midsize SUV either. That title belongs to the Palisade. Instead, the Santa Fe and Kia Sorento operate in a unique niche market designed for certain consumers. Is it the best two-row midsize SUV on the market?
