On the performance front, the Toyota Corolla Cross outmuscles the Honda HR-V. It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 169 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in the HR-V generates only 141 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. Both crossovers have a continuously variable transmission.

Small crossovers typically are not bought for the towing capabilities. Nonetheless, the Corolla Cross is the only one that is rated for towing, with a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

For efficiency, the Corolla Cross and HR-V are evenly matched. While the Corolla Cross offers a higher fuel economy for city driving (up to 31 mpg vs. 28 mpg), the HR-V offers a higher gas mileage for highway driving (up to 34 mpg vs. 33 mpg).

Corolla Cross vs. HR-V: Safety

The Corolla Cross has the advantage for safety, especially with its long list of standard driving assistance features. For example, all Corolla Cross models have standard lane departure warning and a lane-keeping system, but these features are only offered for higher trims of the HR-V.

Corolla Cross vs. HR-V: Technology features

The Corolla Cross is more technologically sophisticated than the HR-V. Both SUVs have an infotainment system, Bluetooth, and an MP3 player. The Corolla Cross also has standard satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, the HR-V doesn’t offer a Wi-Fi hotspot, and satellite radio and smartphone integration are only available for the higher trims.

Corolla Cross vs. HR-V: Warranty coverage

For warranty coverage, the Corolla Cross and HR-V have the same terms for the basic warranty (three years/36,000 miles), corrosion warranty (five years/unlimited miles), and drivetrain warranty (five years/60,000 miles). However, unlike the HR-V, the Corolla Cross has a free maintenance plan (two years/25,000 miles).

Corolla Cross vs. HR-V: Price/value

For pricing, the 2022 HR-V costs slightly less than the 2022 Corolla Cross. The starting prices for the 2022 HR-V range from $21,420 for the LX trim to $26,220 for the EX-L trim. In comparison, the starting prices for the 2022 Corolla Cross range from $22,195 for the L trim to $26,325 for the XLE trim. However, when you factor in its better performance and more standard features, the Corolla Cross offers greater value.

2022 Toyota Corolla Cross vs. 2022 Honda HR-V: Small crossover SUV dominance

Considering that the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is an all-new model, it’s impressive that it stacks up so well against the 2022 Honda HR-V. With advantages in nearly every area that we compared, the Corolla Cross is the clear choice over the HR-V.
