Camry vs. Civic: Performance and efficiency

On the performance front, the 2022 Toyota Camry offers three powertrain options: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (205 hp), a 3.5-liter V6 (301 hp), and a hybrid (208 hp). Unlike the Civic, the Camry offers a traction-enhancing all-wheel drive system.

Powertrain choices for the 2022 Honda Civic include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (158 hp), a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (180 hp), and another variant of the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine for the Civic Si (200 hp).

Also, the Civic offers a high-performance Type R model. Available only in a hatchback model, the Civic Type R features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The specs are not yet available for the 2022 Civic Type R, but it is expected to have a higher horsepower output than the 306-hp turbo engine in the 2021 Civic Type R. 

On the efficiency front, the gas-powered Camry has a fuel economy of up to 28 city/39 highway mpg, while the Camry Hybrid has a gas mileage of up to 51 city/53 highway mpg. In comparison, the Civic has a fuel economy of up to 33 city/42 highway mpg.

Camry vs. Civic: Safety

The Camry and Civic offer a similar array of safety and driving assistance features. This includes a blind spot monitoring system, lane-keeping assist, brake assist, electronic stability control, cross-traffic alert, and a rear parking aid.

Camry vs. Civic: Passenger and cargo space

Since the Camry is a bigger vehicle than the Civic, it comes as no surprise that it has a more spacious cabin. The total passenger volume of the Camry is 100.4 cu-ft, compared to 99.0 cu-ft for the Civic.

For storage space, the Camry has a cargo capacity of 15.1 cu-ft, compared to 14.8 cu-ft for the Civic Sedan. However, the Civic Hatchback has a cargo capacity of 24.5 cu-ft.

Both the Camry and Civic have more upscale interiors compared to many of their passenger car competitors. However, unlike the Civic, the Camry offers a head-up display, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Both models offer a sunroof/moonroof.

For warranty coverage, both the Camry and Civic have a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, unlike the Civic, the Camry offers a complimentary 2-year/25,000-mile maintenance plan.

Which passenger car costs more: the 2022 Camry or 2022 Civic? Starting prices of the 2022 Camry range from $25,295 MSRP for the LE trim up to $35,720 MSRP for the XSE trim.

In comparison, the starting prices of the standard 2022 Civic models range from $21,900 MSRP for the Civic Sedan LX trim up to $29,400 MSRP for the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring trim. Also, while the price information is not yet available for the 2022 Civic Type R, you can expect it to cost slightly more than the 2021 Civic Type R, which has a starting price of $37,895 MSRP.
