The Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E both come in trims specifically designed for speed. The Model Y Performance is the fastest Model Y Trim. The Mach-E GT is the fastet Mustang Mach-E trim.

The Tesla Model Y Performance can go from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT also can go from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. According to MotorTrend, the Model Y Performance makes an enormous 456 horsepower. The Mustang Mach-E GT makes 459 horsepower. When it comes to acceleration and power, these two electric crossovers are evenly matched.

Both the Model Y Performance and Mustang Mach-E GT are extremely quick. They are also incredibly powerful for electric vehicles. The electric crossovers may be evenly matched in speed, but what about range?

Total range is the most important factor when considering an electric vehicle. Range is the defining attribute for many EVs because, without decent range, consumers will be stuck in a perpetual cycle of charging vehicles for hours only to travel short distances before needing to recharge. Range is the reason vehicles like the Honda Clarity EV failed.

Electric vehicles that get under 200 miles of range on a single charge will be obsolete in a few years as battery module technology evolves. Great electric range today is considered 250 miles and above. Top-tier electric vehicles have upwards of 300 miles of range which is ideal for drivers.

The Tesla Model Y Performance has 303 miles of range. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT only has 270 miles of range. Though 270 miles of range is impressive, an extra 33 miles of range could go a long way.

Which is the better buy: Tesla Model Y Performance VS. Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

The Tesla Model Y Performance and the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT provide similar power and speed. The Model Y Performance is the better electric crossover in terms of range. The big question is, how much do these vehicles cost?

The Tesla Model Y Performance starts at $61,990. It is eligible for a $4,800 federal tax credit that would bring its price down to $57,190. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT starts at $59,900. After a $7,500 federal tax credit, its price becomes $52,400. The Mustang Mach-E GT is the cheaper electric crossover, but it has an inferior range to the Model Y performance.

Ultimately, the better buy comes down to usage. If you plan to frequently travel long distances, then the Tesla Model Y Performance is the better purchase. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is a perfect combination of speed and range for the average driver.
