A 13-year-old girl in Ohio led police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car at around 1:15 a.m. Monday morning. The girl was accompanied in the pilfered vehicle by a 15-year-old girl.

The teenage girls allegedly stole the vehicle in Dayton, Ohio, from a group home. The teens drove the car, which was owned by a staff member at the home, from Dayton to Bowling Green.

“As far as we can gather from the report, their cell phone was taken away from them by the caregiver at the house, and then they took the car,” said Lt. Ryan Tackett of the Bowling Green Police Department

WTVG News reports that Bowling Green Police were alerted to the stolen vehicle’s location thanks to surveillance cameras. Police were unaware at that time that the driver was just 13 and the passenger was 15.

“We received a plate radar hit of a stolen vehicle out of Montgomery County,” said Tackett. “Officers were able to locate that vehicle in the area of 25 and Demps Road.”

Rather than pull over, the 13-year-old driver attempted to lose the police

Police attempted a traffic stop, but the teens did not pull over. Instead, they tried to flee. At one point during the chase that reached speeds of 100 mph, the 13-year-old driver sped past Perrysburg Police.

“Somewhere around Roachton Rd., Perrysburg PD got in behind the vehicle as the vehicle approached the diversion Diamond at 25 and 475. It struck another vehicle,” Tackett said.

The teens then attempted to flee on foot, but officers quickly apprehended them. Paramedics took the 13-year-old driver to a hospital with a shoulder injury. The 15-year-old and the driver of the vehicle they hit reportedly suffered no injuries. The two teens now face charges of receiving stolen property and failure to comply with police orders.

“We were a little bit surprised that it was 13- and 15-year-olds. Especially the speeds approaching 100 mph,” Tackett said.
