Passenger sedans are not as popular as they used to be. Automotive customers increasingly favor crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. On top of that, a six-cylinder engine — or V6 — is a rarity for passenger sedans. In the past, it was the standard. However, now, only one new non-luxury midsize sedan has a V-6 engine: the 2023 Toyota Camry.

With its available 3.5-liter V-6 engine, the 2023 Toyota Camry is the only non-luxury midsize sedan in which you can get a six-cylinder engine. If you want a midsize sedan with the power of V-6 — without paying the high price of a luxury model, then the Camry is the only way to go.

The V-6 engine for the Camry is available for the TRD, XLE V6, and XSE V6 trims. With its direct ignition system, twin cam set-up, and aluminum alloy block and head, it doles out 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. Power from the engine is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission, which has a sequential shift mode.

Also, the Camry’s V-6 engine enables the midsize sedan to achieve respectable speed and acceleration. It has a 0-60 mph time as low as 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph. Also, the V-6-powered Camry gets an estimated gas mileage of up to 22 city/33 highway mpg.

The driving experience of the new 2023 Toyota Camry midsize sedan is further enhanced by its various performance features. For precise steering, it has an electric power-assist steering system. Also, for a smooth and controlled ride, the Camry features an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. And for confident braking, it has ventilated front disc brakes and solid disc rear brakes. Additionally, the midsize sedan features selectable drive modes, with settings for Sport, Eco, and Normal.

Furthermore, the Camry offers a wide array of driving assistance technologies. This includes a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, a pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and lane tracing assist.

While other Camry models offer a choice of either a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive system, all V-6-powered models have front-wheel drive.

What other engine options does the Camry offer?

Along with the available V-6 engine, the 2023 Camry offers two other powertrain options: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid. The fully gas-powered four-cylinder engine generates an output of up to 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. And the hybrid variant produces 208 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque.

Also, for efficiency, the Camry gets an estimated fuel economy of up to 28 city/39 highway mpg for the fully gas-powered four-cylinder and 51 city/53 highway mpg for the hybrid variant.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Camry with the V-6 engine cost?

The new 2023 Toyota Camry with the V-6 engine has a starting price of $33,010 MSRP for the TRD trim, $35,820 MSRP for the XLE V6 trim, and $36,370 MSRP for the XSE V6 trim. You’d be hard-pressed to find a V-6-powered new midsize sedan that’s as affordable as the Camry. Except for more expensive luxury models, the Camry is the only midsize sedan that offers a V-6 engine.
