In recent years, most luxury midsize SUVs have risen in price, becoming unaffordable for the average person. Rising inflation plays a part in the high prices of SUVs as well. However, there is one very affordable luxury midsize SUV. In fact, it’s the only new luxury midsize SUV that costs less than $40,000 —and it’s American: the 2022 GMC Acadia is recommended by Consumer Reports.

With a starting price of $36,195 MSRP, the 2022 GMC Acadia is the only luxury midsize SUV that costs less than $40,000 in the United States. This low price is not something most people would expect to find for a luxury model, as usually luxury means expensive.

There are a few caveats about the price of the Acadia, though. The $36,195 MSRP is the starting price, which doesn’t include extra options, a delivery fee, taxes, or additional accessories. Also, with the high inflation costs, many automakers are raising the prices of cars, so the price of the Acadia is subject to change. Dealerships have been marking up new car prices for a few years, regardless of the model.

Additionally, the $36,195 starting price is for the base-level Acadia SLE. The SLT ($40,495 MSRP), AT4 ($42,795 MSRP), and Denali ($47,450 MSRP) trims cost a little more. However, these prices are still very affordable compared to other luxury models. Customers who buy the GMC Acadia will likely pay considerably less than the other new luxury midsize models currently available.

Another thing that adds to the desirability of the 2022 GMC Acadia is that experts love it. Not only is the Acadia cheaper than every other luxury midsize SUV, but it’s also one of the best options available. Consumer Reports awarded the American SUV the “recommended” label as one of only eight options it thinks customers should buy in the segment.

Moreover, it received high marks for its quiet cabin, comfortable ride, comprehensive infotainment system, and roomy rear seats. One of the biggest problems with midsize SUVs is a lack of space for rear passengers. It’s very common for adults to be very uncomfortable when they’re stuck riding in a back seat. However, CR says the GMC Acadia does an excellent job providing passengers of any size with space.

What are the cheapest new luxury midsize SUVs available to buy in 2022?

Unsurprisingly, most of the other SUVs in the Acadia’s class are much more expensive. As always, luxury comes with a price. However, the Acadia stands out above the rest as an affordable, high-quality, luxurious midsize model. Following the GMC Acadia, the next cheapest luxury midsize SUVs are the Lincoln Nautilus ($43,560 MSRP), Lexus RX ($45,920 MSRP), and Infiniti QX60 ($47,350 MSRP). Other models reach as high as $60,000 or more, like the BMW X7 ($60,600 MSRP), Porsche Cayenne ($69,000 MSRP), and Tesla Model X ($114,990 MSRP).

Here are the cheapest luxury midsize SUVs that you can buy in 2022. As noted earlier, many automakers are increasing the price of cars with the high inflation costs, so these prices and the ordering of this list are subject to change.
