This woman goes viral for revealing the tire blowout she experienced on the highway.

Flat tires or tire blowouts are never fun to deal with no matter the circumstance. Ideally, this will take place in a location where it’s easy to pull off the road and be in a safe location. However that’s not always the case.

Dealing with a damaged tire on a highway is a possibility in the worst case scenario. This is a nerve wracking situation as cars travel at greater speeds. Of course, the “choice” of location where a tire blowout happens is unpredictable.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 1.1 million views as of this writing, Dezi (@deziii.acc) shares that her tire blowout ended up taking place on a major highway.

I’m just a girl dealing with a tire blowout

In the TikTok, Dezi showcases the damage of her tire blowout and it’s completely shredded apart.

“Blowout on the highway was not for the weak. I’m just a girl,” she text overlays the post.

As the cars zoomed by, Dezi pulled over to the side of the highway to analyze the damage. Looking at her back tire, the rubber was completely shredded apart and blown out. She revealed that the majority of the material came off the tire. Typically, this happens from continuing to drive on a damaged tire.

The video shows part of the highway, and it’s clear that finding a safe place to land and call for help was a challenge.

She did pull the car over on the left side of the highway directly next to the fast lane of the highway. Luckily another vehicle pulled over and parked behind her car giving some coverage from the highway.

“If you seen us, no you didn’t,” she captioned the post.

“Good job pulling over safely. Never had that happen but definitely seems pretty scary,” one TikTok commenter added.

“Honestly one of the scariest things that can happen while driving, glad you are safe,” another shared.

Commenters shared their tire blowout stories

Many of the commenters shared the same level of despair and offered support in the situation.

“Was on the highway in Arizona for 4 hours and then had to wait for 2 for the tow truck to come. Sushi was no more and we didn’t get home till night,” one TikTok commenter shared.

“Me too queen, but a hot cop pulled up,” one replied.

“It’s okay, this happened to me too and I didn’t even notice 20 mins in my drive,” another commented.

“Don’t let it be in the middle of the night on Atlanta highway,” another shared.

“That happened to our trailer. We didn’t notice til like 5 ppl tried to wave us down,” one added.

Viewers jumped into the comment section and shared photos of their tire blowout moments. Many of the photos posted in the comment section looked similar to the tire blowout in the post.

In some cases, the comment section for a post like this could be mean and pessimistic. However, this comment section was full of support and understanding.

How does a tire blowout?

Tire blowouts can take place for a variety of reasons. Some common reasons include worn threads, under inflation, potholes, heat, and slow leaks, Safelite reports.

“A mechanic overfilled my tires and all my tires exploded on the highway during a blizzard and I totaled my car,” one TikTok commenter added.

Keeping up with regular routine maintenance including tire rotations and proper air inflation can help avoid a tire blowout.

How to deal with a tire blowout on a highway?

Dealing with a tire blowout on the highway isn’t certainly ideal. However, knowing what to do before it happens can help relieve some of the stress.

Here’s what to do when a tire blowout happens on the highway according to SafetyServe.

  1. First Sign of Tire Trouble: Firmly grip the steering wheel and turn on the emergency flashers.
  2. Do Not Slam On The Brakes: Avoid using the brakes and let the car gradually slow down by slowly letting go of the gas pedal.
  3. Maneuver Your Car Over To The Breakdown Lane Or Exit: Getting the car onto either side of the road is essential for safety. If switching lanes is needed, be sure to signal your intentions. It’s always best to find the side of the road to stop instead of stopping in the middle of a highway lane.
  4. Change The Tire: This can be terrifying to complete. It may be best to use roadside assistance to change the tire. Don’t stand next or behind the vehicle. It’s best to stand away from the vehicle if possible while waiting for support.

Dealing with a tire blowout on the highway certainly isn’t fun. By knowing these steps, you’ll be prepared to deal with the situation if it arises.
