Uber drivers complete an average of over 30 million trips per day worldwide. Most of those rides happen without an issue. Sometimes, however, things simply don’t go as planned. Especially when the driver turns out not to work for Uber at all.

In this case, a Florida woman mistook a silver SUV for her ride. She got into the vehicle, and upon realizing that she was in the wrong ride, the driver refused to let her out.

A woman reportedly mistook a silver SUV for her Uber, but the man refused to let her out when she demanded to leave

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a mid-30s man in connection with an attempted kidnapping in Kissimmee, Florida. According to a post on the sheriff’s department Facebook page, a woman misidentified the man and his silver SUV as her Uber.

The driver, who was reportedly smoking marijuana at the time, offered her a ride. She got into the SUV, and off they went. That’s when things took a turn for the worse.

The faux rideshare driver allegedly started making lewd and inappropriate comments to the passenger. Now uncomfortable, the victim demanded that he let her out. He did not.

Now panicked, she started screaming and opened the car door to attempt an escape. He sped up, which threw her off balance, causing her to tumble out of the car while it was moving. She managed to describe the man to the police and take a picture of the SUV. Fortunately, that was the end of the nightmare mistake.

So, what can you do to make sure your next Uber or Lyft ride is safe? For starters, check your application and ensure that the license plate, make, model, and driver match the description on the app.

Never get into a rideshare that seems sketchy or dangerous. Ridesharing applications include the ability to share the specifics of your ride with another person. You can share your progress with a spouse, family member, or trustworthy friend to make sure someone else knows your location.
