Don’t forget about the Nissan Titan! It’s still a good full-size pickup truck to consider, despite its struggle to take down rivals. The 2023 Nissan Titan could change the game with fresh updates, including a new diesel engine.

Is the 2023 Nissan Titan getting a diesel engine?

According to Pickup Truck News, the 2023 Nissan Titan will have a midcycle refresh. The Titan XD could gain a new diesel engine along with other updates. The Cummins diesel engine was used from 2016 to 2019.

However, the engine was discontinued due to a fatal flaw. The location of the diesel exhaust filler tubes and DEF filler neck could be easy to mix up. Putting diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into the diesel system contaminates the entire system.

Multiple owners were found at fault for making this mistake. As a result, the fuel systems faced permanent damage that wasn’t covered by the warranty. Also, the diesel engine was linked to leaking diesel exhaust fumes into the cabin.

How much power will the 2023 Titan have?

The 2023 Nissan Titan is expected to carry over the same 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 412 lb-ft of torque. The old 5.0-liter V8 Cummins turbodiesel engine pumped out 330 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. The new option could have more power.

The gas-powered engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the Titan can tow up to 9,160. Rivals like the Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs, so it’s a little behind. We hope the Titan gains more power soon. It can also carry a payload of up to 1,711 lbs.

Currently, there isn’t any talk about an electric or hybrid powertrain in the works. But these options could arrive later. The Titan gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. So, a more fuel-efficient diesel engine could make fans happy.

While the Titan has a peppy acceleration and confident brakes, its ride quality lacks the refinement of rivals. The Ram 1500 has a smoother ride and a quieter interior. But the Nissan Titan X-Pro has plenty of rugged capability for off-roading.

What’s new for the 2023 Titan?

The goal of the 2023 Nissan Titan refresh is to modernize it. It currently doesn’t hold a candle to the recently redesigned Toyota Tundra. The interior currently relies on hard plastics and lacks storage space.

Perhaps the interior will gain higher-quality materials and innovative storage solutions. However, despite feeling dated, the Zero Gravity seats are incredibly comfortable and supportive. The Titan is also known for having the smallest backseat in the segment.

The Titan has pretty good tech. You can opt for an 8.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, rivals offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. At least you can opt for a wireless phone charging pad.

Rumors suggest that the 2023 Titan will come with more standard features, which is great. Currently, automated emergency braking is the only standard safety option. Competitors offer more.

The 2022 Titan starts at about $38,310. The price for the 2023 Titan may increase a little, thanks to new updates. A new diesel engine could help the Titan, but we think it needs a little more than that.
