When you get married, the til’ death part doesn’t refer to the life of a truck. Unfortunately, a wife’s good intentions to help her husband ended with an expensive disaster.
TikTok user @meggles2446 planned to help her husband by pulling his trailer around with his Ram 1500. But she didn’t know the tailgate was down and quickly realized she messed up during a right turn.
The sound of crushing metal filled the air as the tailgate was completely crumpled against the trailer’s tongue. It’s unclear if the trailer was damaged, but the tailgate has massive dents in it now.
It can cost between $150 to $2,000 to have a Ram truck tailgate replaced based on your make and model. Plus, you need to factor in the amount of damage. Then be sure to prepare for the cost of labor.
Motor1 shared that trucks used to be tougher with steel tailgates. But modern options use a lightweight aluminum construction that’s engineered for vertical strength. They’re weak against horizontal impacts.
Trucks like the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and GMC Sierra are pretty vulnerable options. A trailer tongue can easily crumple a tailgate.
But this mistake is easy to avoid with quick and simple planning tips. For example, always walk around your truck and trailer before you tow to avoid mistakes. Make sure the tailgate is secured in the proper position.
