Just when you thought that you’d test driven all of the amazing new trucks currently on the market, Dodge Ram decides to present you with yet another option. The newest choice is the Ram 1500 Rebel. Despite not hitting the market until late in 2018, the Ram 1500 Rebel is quickly gaining popularity. If you aren’t already considering the Ram 1500 Rebel, here are a few reasons why you should make it the next stop on your truck-buying adventure.

What makes the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel special?

The Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel was designed with the off-roader in mind. The truck is durable enough to take down trails, on camping trips, and for working on the back forty. It’s a solid truck that’s perfect for the weekend adventurer, construction worker, and farmer. The great thing about this truck is that it also looks great.

Dodge overhauled the Ram 1500 Rebel for 2019. The revamped design enabled the manufacturer to incorporate new technology as well as premium appointments to the vehicle. All of the improvements are geared to improving the comfort and safety of the passengers riding in the off-road vehicle.

The crew cab version of the vehicle starts at $48,000 and features a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine that has 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The combination allows this vehicle to pull a loaded trailer that weighs 11,000 lbs. The truck goes from 0-60 in just 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 108 mph. Pretty impressive for a 1/2 ton pickup truck.

The Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel is surprisingly comfortable

Yes, trucks have become more comfortable each year, but the ones designed specifically for off-road adventuring like the Rebel tend to jar passengers. The Rebel is the exception to the rule. One of the first things drivers notice when they take it out on the trails is how nice it rides. Reasons for the smooth ride include:

  • Heavy-duty coil springs
  • Off-road ready 33-inch Wrangler DuraTrac tires
  • Power lumbar adjust
  • Heated seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Cloth-and-vinyl seats that are designed to keep passengers from slipping
  • Large control knobs
  • Easy to read dials

In addition to all the things that ensure you’re physically comfortable while traveling, the Ram 1500 Rebel also has a wonderful infotainment center that’s easy to read and to use while driving. It includes navigation, Bluetooth, and other accessories that help you arrive at your final destination on time and with minimal stress.

One of the complaints some people have had with Ram trucks is the height. The trucks keep getting taller while the drivers don’t grow. This makes getting in and out of the vehicle challenging. To help resolve the issue, the Ram Rebel has different height options. The lowest height is the entry-level Rebel which is a good choice for people who drive over some rough roads and who frequently get in and out of the truck. The highest height level is full-scale off-road mode, which provides the vehicle with the clearance needed to clear obstacles on rough trails.

The downsides to purchasing a Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel

One of the biggest drawbacks to the Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel is the gas mileage. It’s not very good. The average estimate is 15 city / 21 highway which is significantly lower than other half-ton trucks on the market. The type of driving you’re doing as well as whether you’re hauling a loaded trailer is going to significantly impact the vehicle’s overall fuel economy. Despite the less than ideal fuel economy, this is an excellent choice for anyone who needs a reliable, comfortable off-road truck.
