If you are interested in a full-size truck, a Ford is likely on your list. The F-150 has long been an iconic pickup, and it has been around for years. But not every Ford F-150 is created equally. Some of these trucks have been fairly unreliable, and because of that, you’ll want to avoid them. There is one Ford F-150 that you will want to buy in particular. 

Why should you never buy a 2004 Ford F-150?

2004 was not a good year for Ford’s full-size truck, it was plagued with a variety of issues. The 2004 F-150 had multiple recalls, and the engines were not known to be reliable. Both the 5.4-liter and 6.8-liter Triton engines were not known to be good powerplants. Making this an unreliable truck.

Spark plugs have been known to fail, which can cause some major engine issues. Another issue comes in form of the windows. According to Vehicle History, the window regulators can break. Which means that the windows will crash into its door. While windows may not be as big as a deal as a truck’s powertrain, that is still an annoying problem to have. 

Is the 2004 F-150 unreliable?

Both the 2004 and 2005 Ford F-150 are not known to be reliable. If you want a reliable truck, there are plenty of other F-150 models to choose from. Ones that will likely will not cause you the headaches that one of these pickups might.

When buying a used car, it is important to conduct the proper research. That way, you know you are getting something that is up to handling the miles ahead. In terms of which other F-150 models should be avoided, the 2010 version also has some issues. 

Which used Ford F-150 is worth buying?

Generally speaking, an F-150 built after 2017 should be a safe bet. These trucks offer a range of comfort features as well as multiple engine options. In terms of reliability, one of the better engines is the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. This engine has been known to function properly with many miles on the clock. Plus, you get some added efficiency.

A Ford F-150 that is 2017 or newer will not be as cheap as an older model. But, you will not have to sacrifice as much in terms of features. Plus, a newer full-size truck will likely have fewer miles. And that is something that should be appreciated.

Is it worth it to buy a used Ford F-150?

Pre-owned Ford F-150s are ideal for those who can not swing buying a new model. You can still get a pickup that is capable, reliable, and comes with the kinds of features that you are looking for. But remember, when buying a used full-size truck, there might be some model years that you should avoid. 

Before purchasing a used truck, you should conduct the proper research. Another good idea is to check the service history of your potential Ford F-150. That way, you know if it has been taken care of and had routine maintenance performed.
