Have y’all seen the 2021 Toyota Fortuner? It’s one epic SUV that we can’t have, but we aren’t satisfied with that! We want to know why we don’t have the Toyota Fortuner in the United States because it’s one extremely cool off-roading option.

Why isn’t the 2021 Toyota Fortuner in the U.S.?

According to The Drive, the 2021 Toyota Fortuner serves as proof that we miss out on the coolest SUVs. For the record, we also miss out on some pretty awesome trucks, like the Toyota Hilux too.

The Fortuner is an SUV that rides on the Toyota Hilux platform. It has a body-on-frame setup to provide a smooth ride while maintaining a rugged setup for adventuring.

The first Fortuner came out in 2004. Then the 2015 model marked the second generation of this off-roader. Now, the 2021 model has been revealed with a new face that includes sharper lines and new LED headlights.

What comes with the Toyota Fortuner?

The 2021 Toyota Fortuner has more muscle to brag about. It has a 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine that pumps out 201 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It has an increase of 27 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque compared to the previous model.

However, the Fortuner’s revised powertrain now sips 17% less fuel and has an increased towing capacity. It can now tow up to 6,834 lbs, while the current Toyota 4Runner can only tow up to 5,000 lbs.

Some markets, like Australia or Thailand, may receive a model with less power. The Fortuner is also available with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 148 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both variants come with standard rear-wheel drive but can be upgraded to all-wheel drive.

The Fortuner now has three different driving modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sport. The powertrains are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, we bet off-roading enthusiasts wish this SUV was available as a manual.

A few upgrades were made to the suspension to provide a smoother ride. There is a fair amount of body roll around corners, though. Also, the 4×4 setup now includes a locking rear differential.

The interior of the 2021 Toyota Fortuner hasn’t been changed much. The touchscreen infotainment system has been increased from seven to eight inches.

Plus, it now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an additional powered subwoofer. So, you can really rock out while dominating the trails.

The touchscreen has been revised to include faster shortcuts and commands for more convenient use. Also, the heated and ventilated front seats will keep you comfortable.

The Toyota Fortuner Legender is the top-of-the-line trim that includes extra goodies such as two-tone seats, ambient lighting, an electronic rearview mirror, wireless charging, extra USB ports, and a sensor that automatically opens the tailgate if your hands are free.

There is plenty of space in the second row for adults, and the third row is spacious too. However, knee space could be limited for taller folks. The third row of the 4Runner only has enough space for children.

At the end of the day, options like the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner aren’t in the United States because they fail to meet rising emission standards. They would have to be reworked pretty heavily. But why would Toyota do that when we have the Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner already?
