We’re a little surprised to see the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 struggling against the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. Typically, it scores in the top three options as one of the best full-size pickup trucks you can buy. However, the 2023 Chevy Silverado didn’t make it on one prestigious list.

Is the 2023 Chevy Silverado one of the best pickup trucks?

The 2023 Chevy Silverado might be the best pickup truck based on who you ask. Critics who rank trucks use different scoring methods, and drivers gravitate toward different models for various reasons.

In terms of sales, the Silverado lags behind the Ford F-150, and it might not be as comfortable as the Ram 1500. But it’s capable, has tons of configurations, and has an above-average reliability ranking.

Even when it doesn’t come in the first place, it’s typically included in the top three best trucks. It has even been taking second place from its rivals lately. But Car and Driver didn’t even rank the Silverado on its list of the Best New Pickup Trucks of 2023.

The full-size segment includes the 2023 Ford F-150, Ford F-150 Raptor, Ford F-150 Lightning, 2023 Ram 1500, and Ram 1500 TRX.

Is the F-150 better than the Silverado?

The 2023 Ford F-150 and the 2023 Chevy Silverado outrank each other in different areas. However, the Ford F-150 is considered to have a better price and more value. It starts at $39,195, while the Silverado begins at about $43,600

Plus, the F-150 has more affordable off-roading variants like the Rattler. The high-end luxury models also provide price savings. Silverado trims require a few different expensive towing and convenience packages as well.

While the F-150 has a hybrid model and an all-electric model, the Silverado may attract drivers because it has a powerful diesel engine. However, the F-150 tows up to 14,000 lbs, and the Silverado maxes out at 13,300 lbs.

The Silverado and F-150 have similar warranty coverage options, but the Silverado offers a free complimentary first maintenance visit. Also, based on reports of issues for the past three years, the Silverado has a higher reliability ranking.

Is the Silverado better than the Ram 1500?

Again, the 2023 Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 both have strengths and weaknesses to offer. But right out the gate, we can confirm that the Ram 1500 has a better ride quality. It provides the smoothest ride in the segment.

Plus, it has an abundance of sound-dampening materials and tech to keep the cabin peacefully quiet. The Silverado has a noticeably bumpier ride, especially while off-roading. Wind and road noise is more intrusive as well.

Also, the Ram 1500 has more space than the Silverado. The rear seat is the largest in the segment, with up to 45.2 inches of legroom. It provides more innovative storage solutions for tools and gear with lockable Ram boxes on both sides of the bed.

Both the Silverado and Ram 1500 have impressive diesel engines available. However, the Ram 1500 gets a better fuel economy and has a larger fuel tank, so you don’t have to fill up as often. Although, the Ram truck can only tow up to 12,750 lbs.

While the Silverado is a great truck to consider, it’s not as spacious or as comfortable as the Ram 1500. Also, the Ford F-150 offers more powertrain options and is more affordable.
