We’re doing something a bit different with the Nissan Frontier today because we’re celebrating it as the number two option. Seriously, the 2022 Nissan Frontier deserves to be recognized for climbing the ranks and overtaking rivals such as the Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger as the second best-selling truck.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth buying?

Yes, 100 times yes, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is worth buying. It just got a revised suspension for an improved ride quality, updated tech, more engine power, better styling, and beefier off-roading upgrades.

This is probably why the Frontier was able to soar past its competition to become the second best-selling mid-size truck in America. According to The Drive, the Toyota Tacoma is in first place, while the Chevy Colorado sits in third, and the Jeep Gladiator is currently in fourth.

The Frontier must have needed updates because it gained a 107.8 percent sales increase while the Tacoma actually experienced a 20 percent decline in sales. However, it’s still number one.

Also, we know that supply chain shortages may have impacted sales. Rivals may not of has enough semiconductor chips to provide enough units.

How does the Frontier ride?

You would think that the 2022 Nissan Frontier would be able to catch the Toyota Tacoma thinks to its upgraded ride and extra muscle. The Frontier has a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It has the best-in-class V6 engine.

With the 2022 Toyota Tacoma, the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.

According to Edmunds, the Frontier can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds, which is average for the class. The Tacoma can reach 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds as well.

The Frontier has smooth transmission shifts and agile performance, with confident brakes, but the steering is a little heavy. The Tacoma could benefit from a little more pep, and the brakes are grabby.

Also, the Frontier may have a smoother ride on the pavement than the Tacoma, but the Tacoma features a quieter interior and more seat adjustments. Passengers don’t have a rear vent for AC in the Frontier, which can impact comfort.

When properly equipped, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,708 lbs. The Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,685 lbs.

Does the Frontier or Tacoma have better features?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier has an upscale cabin with high-quality materials and modern design. The 2022 Toyota Tacoma feels a bit dated with the use of hard plastics, but drivers may appreciate its simple design.

While an 8.0-inch infotainment screen comes standard with the Frontier, you can upgrade to the 9.0-inch unit. Plus, the 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster looks great. The Tacoma features an 8.0-inch infotainment system.

Both trucks have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charging pad, and a premium audio system. But the Frontier also has a built-in wi-fi hotspot and a 360-degree camera view.

While the Frontier provides a better ride quality and updated tech, the Tacoma is known for being more reliable with an excellent resale value. Perhaps the Nissan Frontier will catch up once its reliability rankings come out.
